About this property

Bedale 2.2 miles. Malt Shovel Cottage, a character abode settled in the village of Little Crackehall, near Bedale, North Yorkshire. Situated next to a flowing beck with easy access to the Yorkshire Dales National Park, Malt Shovel Cottage sits in an idyllic position for families looking to escape to this rural part of North England. After a day of wandering the local footpaths, look forward to curling up on the sofa before the woodburning stove, flicking on the Smart TV in search of your favourite show. Carry the conversation into the kitchen/diner, where you can impress the group with a hearty meal assisted by a range of appliances, including an electric oven and hob, microwave, fridge/freezer and even a dishwasher, so you won’t have to raise a finger when cleaning up! Whisk away upstairs and discover two well-presented bedrooms, including a double and a twin, served by a bathroom with choice of bath and shower over. Enjoy morning coffees from the garden space, overlooking the flowing stream, before heading to the village of Bedale, exploring the local shops and markets as you source the ingredients for a hearty breakfast. The local village of Crakehall is regarded by many as one of the prettiest in the Yorkshire Dales, featuring a 5-acre green surrounded by Sycamore and lime trees and is split into two by a tributary of the River Swale, Bedale Beck, forming Little Crakehall and Great Crakehall. Venture into the Yorkshire Dales National Park where you'll be greeted by a range of nature-filled sights and popular landmarks to add to your itinerary, including Jervaulx Abbey, the National Trust site of Brimham Rocks, and The Forbidden Corner. Explore the Georgian town of Richmond with its fine castle ruins and the Wensleydale railway line, an authentic heritage railway or head to Darlington and catch a show at the Darlington Hippodrome, a beautiful Edwardian theatre. Gather loved ones for a special stay at Malt Shovel Cottage.

The small market town of Bedale is steeped in history, some of which can be found in the local museum. The town also offers a weekly market on a Tuesday, interesting churches, various craft and antique shops (notably Red House), cafes, and pubs, which provide local beers and home cooked food. There are many lovely walks for all abilities in this beautiful area, as well as delightful villages to explore. Within easy reach are many other attractions, including the Constable Burton Hall Gardens with extensive parkland and woodland walks, and Jervaulx Abbey, with its tearooms and Brymor Ice Cream, is only a 10 minute drive away. Gardeners will enjoy the Thorp Perrow Arboretum, which also offers falconry displays, plus don't miss the weird and wonderful Forbidden Corner near Middleham! Ideally placed for exploring all of Wensleydale, Swaledale and Wharfedale, and the magical city of York, less than an hour away.
