About this property

Battery Barn is a traditional-style barn conversion, nestled in the heart of the Yorkshire Dales National Park, in the picturesque village of Kettlewell. With a serene countryside location close to a river, roadside parking, and welcoming two well-behaved pets, it’s an ideal retreat for families or friends looking for a getaway to the tranquil scenery of North Yorkshire. Here, you can gather around the dining table and enjoy home-cooked meals, while discussing the day's adventures. Adjacent to the kitchen, you'll find the inviting sitting room, complete with a TV and a woodburning stove, perfect for those chilly evenings. The property's charm is further enhanced by the wooden roof beams that thread throughout the space, adding a touch of rustic elegance. When it's time to retire for the night, choose from one of the three inviting bedrooms. The super-king-size bedroom boasts an en-suite with a walk-in shower, basin, and WC, offering a private sanctuary for relaxation. The remaining rooms consist of a welcoming king and a twin, ensuring a space for all to rest. A family bathroom, equipped with a walk-in shower, basin, and WC, serves these rooms, providing additional convenience. Outside, the enclosed patio, furnished with outdoor seating, invites you to enjoy a morning coffee or an evening drink, while soaking up the tranquil surroundings. Kettlewell is a lovely village, housing three welcoming pubs and hundreds of walks from your doorstep. There is a village shop and café, as well as the options of walks to Starbotton, Buckden and Buckden Pike. When you are ready to leave the comfort of Battery Barn, venture on the numerous picturesque walks, hikes and cycling routes that the Yorkshire Dales National Park has to offer, perhaps ending at Kilnsey Park. This stunning nature reserve guarantees a delightful day out for all ages with its fishing lakes, farm animals, adventure playground, and café. After a day of exploration, unwind in The Blue Bell Inn, a traditional Yorkshire pub located just a short stroll from your doorstep, where you can savour a pint of locally brewed ale and a hearty home-cooked meal. Whatever the weather and whatever the occasion, a holiday at Battery Barn will leave you with memories to cherish.

Nestling at the foot of Great Whernside, near the head of Upper Wharfedale, this idyllic village makes the perfect place from which to explore the wonderful scenery and pretty villages of this magnificent Dale. Much of Upper Wharfedale is National Trust owned - an indication of the beauty of its classic countryside, with dry-stone walls and barns, important flower-rich hay meadows and valley side woodland. Undoubtedly, this is one of the best walking and mountain biking areas in the Dales, with The Dales Way passing nearby. The village itself lying on the banks of the River Wharfe is a real delight with traditional built stone cottages, three pubs, a Post Office, speciality shops and a hotel. No surprise that the hit movie Calendar Girls was filmed here and in other locations throughout the area. An excellent base for enjoying the famous Dales, historic market towns, caves and waterfalls of this magical area.

Smart TV with ability for prime, Netflix, but sometimes TV unresponsive to remote control which was frustrating. Wi-Fi great and I managed to work remotely which was a great help. Great log burner and thank you for complementary wood and coal, a life saver as some of the room heaters didn’t work properly (the one in the super king room didn’t come on at all, the upstairs bathroom one didn’t work at all, the one in the king room was inconsistent, either cool or bakingly hot!) Towels very fluffy but bedding, although comfortable didn’t feel particularly freshly laundered. Disappointing that parking was not directly outside the property, although only a short walk behind on a main road. Owners very responsive to questions, although I felt they were irritated in their response when I asked if there was the option for a change of bedding for the super king (as it didn’t smell very fresh).

Just wish we had control of the heating but enjoyable nonetheless. Wonderful location and would stay again!

Heating set to ambient temperature, if it had been freezing outside may have struggled to keep warm. Log burner great but could do with enough wood to last the week, happy to pay extra to cover the cost. Stayed in many cottages in upper wharfedale over the past thirty years and this rates as one of the best. Thanks for a lovely holiday.
