For a day at the seaside, head to the resort of Saltburn-by-the-Sea (16 miles). Spend the day relaxing on the sand and shingle beach, or join the locals riding the waves in this surfing hotspot. The town boasts many fascinating attractions from its Victorian heyday, including a cliff lift, pier, and Italian gardens.
