Stamford Bridge, as its name suggests, was a fording point over the River Derwent for a Roman settlement. Nowadays, it is a village with a selection of shops and restaurants and is notable for a renovated railway viaduct, which is now used as a cycle and public footpath. The village is well known as the site of the Battle of Stamford Bridge on 25th September 1066, which marked the end of the Viking era in Britain. Within easy reach are the pretty Yorkshire market towns of Malton, Beverley and Driffield and within an hour’s drive is the unspoilt coastal resort of Filey with open beaches and the nearby rspb nature reserve at Bempton.

The Lodge was fantastic for 2 people big and spacious the bed could easily sleep 4! The welcome pack was bonus my partner enjoyed this! Very quiet not overlooked at all you could hear the traffic from the road outside but couldn’t see it at all. The only other lodge in the area is opposite to you and there are others at the other end of the park. The hot tub was great even in the rain and was ready to use on the first day! Just a few point I would make are that there was no measuring jug in the kitchen and the oven rubber was loose also the pans could do with replacing we used the kitchen every night for cooking as it’s hard to eat out with having so many allergies. On the hole the lodge was very clean and well kept inside the outside could do with some paint and decking needs a clean but this will not stop us visiting again as it’s whole location was great for exploring the area and was quiet and relaxing. Thank you for a great relaxing few days!

Very clean and very homely. Everything that you would need when staying away from home. The only downside is the traffic it starts around 6:30 in the morning and busy through the rush hour periods If you can live with it then you’re on a winner If noise is a problem step away as you won’t be happy

We arrived a little earlier than planned, but the welcome was warm and friendly. The lodge itself is well equipped and very comfortable (could do with some oven gloves though, unless we just didn't find them). The bed is huge and very comfortable. The hot tub is very private, and we found it easy to get into and out of (unlike some others we have encountered). Stamford Bridge is a lovely place to stay - handy for York and the east cost resorts. We'll be back!
