Guests say

Shire Cottage has received mixed feedback, with guests praising its location, comfort, and thoughtful touches such as a welcome hamper and Christmas tree. The property is appreciated for its dog-friendly features and private setting. However, some concerns have been raised regarding cleanliness and maintenance issues.

Reviews indicate a range of experiences with cleanliness. While some guests found the property well-presented, others reported issues with dirt, grime, and a smell of damp, suggesting inconsistency in the property's upkeep.

The location is generally well-regarded, with guests pleased by the picturesque setting and proximity to beaches and villages. However, one review mentioned noise from nearby renovation work, which slightly impacts the score.

Guests have found the cottage comfortable, mentioning a warm and cosy atmosphere, a bed like 'sleeping on a cloud', and a well-equipped property. Comfort appears to be a strong point for Shire Cottage.

Facilities have received mixed reviews. Positive mentions include a good run for dogs and a well-equipped kitchen, but there are reports of broken appliances and maintenance issues that need addressing.

The property owners have shown thoughtfulness through gestures like a welcome hamper and a Christmas tree. However, as such gifts are subject to change and not guaranteed, they should be considered a bonus rather than an expectation.

The owners have managed to strike exactly the right balance between style and comfort - smart enough to be impressive but casual enough to enable you to switch off and relax. Many thanks.

The cottage itself was lovely with views across a paddock. Unfortunately, there was renovation work going on next door but one, from early morning until dark, involving electric saws etc so it was very noisy. We booked Mon - Fri but left on Thursday. On Thursday I was awoken with banging on the roof at 7:30am. I went out to investigate and it was someone cleaning out the gutters. I got up and let the dogs in the paddock opposite, as advertised. One of my dogs started yelping as if she’d been ran over and she came to me with 3 deep wounds, 2 in her legs and one in her side. I rang around vets and managed to get her booked in for a general anaesthetic and stitches which cost over £600. I messaged the owner who said the paddock was now out of bounds and she would be over tomorrow. We left after her operation on Thursday night as we had had enough.
