Settle down at the dining table, ready to tuck in as the conversation flows and wine is poured, toasting to a wonderful holiday as you plan for the days ahead. If you prefer to dine alfresco, step out onto the private decking area and bask in your surroundings a little while longer. If you’re seeking some much-need R&R, treat yourself to a long, indulgent soak in the tub or a revitalising shower, prior to escaping to either a double or twin bedroom to rest up. Situated 10 miles south of Bridlington and 6 miles north of Hornsea, the vlllage of Skipsea sits in a typically rural setting surrounded by rich, agricultural land, yet also rests within one mile of the beach and is close to the cliffs of the North Sea. The village has its own Post Office and general store, a hairdresser’s and a pub. Many of the houses in the village, both old and new, use cobbles from the sea shore in the building. Just outside the village are the remains of Skipsea Castle. The surrounding countryside is excellent for walking and cycling, whilst the nearby seaside towns of Bridlington and Filey boast long sandy beaches and numerous resort attractions. The Deep Submarium at Hull, Sledmere House and Burton Constable Hall are within 20 miles, whilst the shops, cathedral and museum of historic York, the resort town of Scarborough and the North Yorks Moors Steam Railway at Pickering are within an hour’s drive, and Whitby is just a little further, making Skipsea a superb base for a relaxing holiday.

The cottage itself was lovely with views across a paddock. Unfortunately, there was renovation work going on next door but one, from early morning until dark, involving electric saws etc so it was very noisy. We booked Mon - Fri but left on Thursday. On Thursday I was awoken with banging on the roof at 7:30am. I went out to investigate and it was someone cleaning out the gutters. I got up and let the dogs in the paddock opposite, as advertised. One of my dogs started yelping as if sheâd been ran over and she came to me with 3 deep wounds, 2 in her legs and one in her side. I rang around vets and managed to get her booked in for a general anaesthetic and stitches which cost over £600. I messaged the owner who said the paddock was now out of bounds and she would be over tomorrow. We left after her operation on Thursday night as we had had enough.
