About this property

Nestled in the rural countryside of West Yorkshire, on the outskirts of the charming market town of Todmorden, is The Milne; a large, three-storey townhouse of Yorkshire stone, with all the facilities and space necessary for the comfort of the larger family group; come rain or shine! The Milne provides the perfect blend of practical ease and rural retreat for a family of six, with stunning open moorland just a few minutes' stroll away, whilst easy road accessibility, two parking spaces, amenities within walking distance and an enclosed, large private garden and patio all cater for family and friends of every age. Head into the hallway and immediately relax, as you're greeted with through wooden flooring, ample storage for all those shoes and coats, the commodious, fully equipped kitchen/diner and the beautiful dining room, in which your party can spread out, dine and chat before stepping through onto the landscaped patio area and spacious walled garden beyond for an hour of sun, sunset, or an al fresco barbecue. With its contemporary design, The Milne boasts a wealth of space and facilities for everyone, including a ground floor WC and sink room with further storage space, in addition to the full set bathroom and shower-rooms; essential for the comfort of the larger group, and of course our planet - all our gas and electricity is 100% renewable! Stroll up the carpeted stairs (gated for four-legged pals), and retreat to the luscious living room, featuring plush seating, a Smart TV and speedy internet, a library of books and puzzles for cosy nights in, and two lovely Juliet balconies to gaze out over countryside views. As day turns into night, have a bubbly soak in the heated bathroom with its easy access, fully-tiled bath and be spoilt for choice with three spacious and stylish carpeted bedrooms, starting with a twin on the first floor, followed by a further twin boasting two beds which can be joined together; ideal for couples, families and friends sharing, and finally the king-size bedroom, with its practical shower en-suite bathroom on the second floor. A fantastic holiday needs to be easy and from The Milne it's a saunter down the road to the local shop, great pub-grub and drinks at The Waggon & Horses, the renowned Gorden Riggs' Garden Centre & Café and even Walsden train station; or, just pop in the car to the nearby Morrisons supermarket, and Todmorden's variety of fine dining, quirky cafes, lovely Victorian park and a host of food speciality stores in the central market. Situated in the heart of three magnificent Northern valleys, the breathtaking backdrop of the Happy Valley TV series, there is easy access by train to Manchester, Leeds and Bradford city centres, where you'll discover The National Museum of Science and Media, The National Football Museum, the student shopping paradise of Affleck's Palace and a plethora of art galleries, plus high-street and high-end stores. Perfect for hikers, The Milne is located on the edge of moorland, at the start of one of The Times' Top 20 Country Walks in England, so just head out of your front door for an exceptional circular over the Lancashire/Yorkshire border, along with a myriad of other hikes and scrambles above Todmorden where you'll find the unique Bridestone Rock formations, the Wizard of Whirlaw and the serenely beautiful Walker's Waterfall, not to mention the magnificent monument of Stoodley Pike and, of course, the UK's Secret and Highest Beach! A little further afield, young and old will enjoy taking a vintage steam train into the heart of Bronte country to explore the cobbled streets of bewitching Haworth village, with its historical Parsonage and Bramwell's pub, unique shops and eateries, and of course, the magnificent hike to Top Withins, the romantic ruined farmhouse that inspired Wuthering Heights. Steeped in history, there's also Pendle Hill and the Witches to discover; follow the Sculpture Trail with the kids or take the infamous witches' steps, then experience the mystical windborne sounds of the Singing Ringing Tree, a unique musical structure on the hills high above nearby Burnley. Local Victorian town, Halifax, is a great destination with its gothic Minster, bustling shopping centre and indoor market, the open air venue of The Piece Hall and of course, the amazingly interactive Eureka children's museum; all in addition to Shibden Hall, the stunning medieval home of Gentleman Jack, with its beautiful gardens, café, railway, boating lake, woodland trails and kids' play area. And if that just isn't enough, there is always one of the UK's oldest (and highest!) 9-hole golf courses in Todmorden to play on, followed by an afternoon of fishing in the Ramsden Wood reservoir located minutes up the road from The Milne. For a slice of peace and relaxation, do pay a visit to Heptonstall, voted one of Condé Nast's Prettiest Villages in England and the resting place of both poet Sylvia Plath and David Hartley of the infamous Cragg Vale Coiners, or instead spice things up a little in pretty, bohemian Hebden Bridge nestled below in the valley; a long walk (or short bike!) from Todmorden along the historic Rochdale Canal. So, if you're dreaming of evening strolls across stunning moorland, days of hiking or biking, city fun and adventures, or the perfectly spacious and well-designed Home and Garden to potter about in on lazy days; all easily accessible by road or on foot, then The Milne is for you - Welcome!

Todmorden is a market town in the area of Calderdale, just under 5 miles from the popular destination of Hebden Bridge, in the middle of wonderful scenery provided by the three valleys which surround it, and which offer great opportunities for walking, cycling, riding and bird watching. Todmorden has a rich industrial history, and today offers a fine selection of cafes, shops and pubs. Just a few miles away, Hebden Bridge is a quirky town with a relaxed air, and further amenities. From here it is easy to head over the moors to Haworth where the splendid Parsonage Museum commemorates the famous Bronte family who lived there. The area is also a must for steam railway enthusiasts who will enjoy the thriving Worth Valley Railway. A charming blend of town and country living.

We enjoyed our stay over Christmas. We also enjoyed the walking routes from the front door and one of our party cycled along the Rochdale Canal to Hebden Bridge & beyond.

The Milne is easily the best holiday home I have ever stayed in. There are lots of lovely little touches to make you feel thoroughly at home and I am looking forward to visiting again.
