This tranquil town, which was formerly a fortified Anglo-Saxon village, is rich in history and heritage housing a beautiful church with a roof that dates to the 15th century, and Thomas Telford lived there when the canal system was being built in the late 18th century. The town also offers a good selection of stores, bars, and eateries, as well as a selection of activities on and around the nearby meres.
