If walking is your thing, be sure to visit Chirk where you can find the Start of Maelor Way, as well as the 82-mile Offas Dyke, sure to satisfy any outdoor enthusiasts. Chirk is also home to a fascinating 700-year-old castle which houses armour and is set in gloriously manicured gardens. Next stop is Llangollen, where you can wander around the impressive 14th-century Plas Newydd Historic House and Gardens, embark on The Llangollen Round or hop aboard a vintage steam train at the Llangollen Railway Station for incomparable sights as you venture along the River Dee and through an Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty. Ellesmere, a charming market town with Tudor, Georgian, and Victorian architecture, is located in Shopshire's Lakeland, between the Shropshire Meres and the well-known Shropshire to Llangollen canal. This historic town, which was initially a fortified Anglo-Saxon village, has a splendid 15th-century church and was home to Thomas Telford during the late 18th-century construction of the canal network. Also, the town has a wide range of stores, taverns, and restaurants, as well as a lot of things to do on and around the nearby meres.
