About this property

Craven Arms 6.8 miles. Tucked away in the quaint, Shropshire village of Munslow, just north of Craven Arms, rests this exquisite, seven-bedroom holiday home, The Old School. Set over three floors in a converted former school building, this fantastic property is brimming with character, retaining an abundance of its original features, as well as some tasteful upgrades. Boasting ample off-road parking, a large, well-appointed garden with private hot tub, and warm, inviting interiors, this fabulous home welcomes a large family or group of friends searching for their next relaxing escape near the Shropshire Hills Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty. Park up and unpack as you settle into your gorgeous new lodgings, where you will find a range of delightful living spaces. Get to work in the home's fully-equipped kitchen, which houses a large range cooker and American-style fridge/freezer, as well as all the utensils required to rustle up delicious, home-cooked feasts. Gather around two dining tables to savour your meals, before your retreat to one of two, tastefully-laid out sitting rooms, one of which enjoys a sleek, 65" Smart TV and accompanying gas fire. The kids will enjoy the games area, set upon the first-floor mezzanine, which comes with a selection of games to keep them entertained for hours. When the weather allows it, take a glass of your favourite beverage out into the garden, where you can gather around the fire pit whilst sitting on the patio, which comes with a nifty, electronically controlled, retractable sunroof. There's even a shepherd's hut that serves as a space that is kept nice and warm by an infrared heater - ideal for those who unfortunately have to work whilst they're on holiday, as well as a 25-foot covered, circular deck at the top of the garden, which enjoys unparalleled views of Brown Clee Hill, Shropshire's highest point! When sleep finally calls, be sure to treat yourself to an indulgent, Jacuzzi bath with body jets and steam before you retire to one of six plush bedrooms for a well-earned rest. If you can tear yourself away from your amazing new dwelling, head out to explore what your local area has to offer. A short drive will bring you to Craven Arms, where you can stock up on supplies at Tuffins Supermarket & Garden Centre, stop for refreshing pint at The Stables Inn, or even grab some fish and chips from Fryer Freeman to enjoy back at your accommodation. Whilst you're in the town, be sure to spend time at the Shropshire Hills Discovery Centre, which offers activities and exhibits the entire group will enjoy; brush up on some local history at the Land of Lost Content; or even pay a visit to the historic location of Stokesay Castle, a fortified, medieval manor offering free audio tours! The renowned Shropshire Hills AONB also offers a plethora of unmissable attractions, including the monument of Flounders' Folly, the nature reserve of Hopesay Common, and the stunning landscapes of the Carding Mill Valley and the Long Mynd. Head into the heart of Ludlow, home to two food festivals, one in Spring and one in Autumn, a haven for foodies, or reach Bridgnorth, rich in history with its rail car, perfect for boarding for tours of the lower town up to the upper region, whilst the historic Ironbridge, the first of its kind, which kicked off the Industrial Revolution is worth a visit. For a truly unforgettable escape to rural Shropshire, look no further than The Old School.

Between charming Church Stretton and lovely Ludlow is the tiny market town of Craven Arms, also referred to as The Gateway to the Marches. With its location on the picturesque Wenlock Edge and Corvedale Valley and its fine hikes from the town to the magnificent Stokesay Castle, one of England's best fortified manor homes, or the hugely popular Shropshire Hills Discovery Centre, Craven Arms is a great starting point. The town also contains several lovely and ancient homes, such as the fascinating "Museum of Lost Content" and a round house that is said to have served as a rest stop for pilgrims going between Wigmore and Shrewsbury Abbeys. Nearby Church Stretton, known for its beautiful hikes and top-notch golf course, is nestled between the Long Mynd and Caradoc Hills. A short drive away are the charming mediaeval towns of Bishop's Castle, Ludlow, and Shrewsbury, which feature stunning castles, riverside walks, fantastic shops, pubs, restaurants, thrilling theatre, and a number of festivals. Any time of year, this is the ideal starting point for exploring the entire lovely county of Shropshire.

An historic old house (once the local school) has been lovingly restored and cared for over the years, not least by the current owners (interior designers no less!) who have turned it into a simply stunning property. Luxurious in every respect, the attention to detail is incredible..... this house has everything and more. Beautiful fixtures and fittings and one notices something new every time you enter a room; it really is an absolute gem. The house owners too were such a delight; nothing was too much trouble and they really couldn't do enough for us. Sadly, we were only able to stay for a short weekend, but we have every intention of returning and soon.
