Guests say

The Oaks in All Stretton receives high praise for its stunning location, spacious and well-equipped interiors, and beautiful views. Guests consistently highlight the comfort, cleanliness, and suitability for large family gatherings or groups, with direct access to excellent walking routes. Thoughtful touches such as welcome hampers are frequently mentioned, though not guaranteed. Minor issues include some uncomfortable beds, occasional maintenance niggles, and restrictions for dog owners. Overall, the property is highly recommended for those seeking a peaceful countryside retreat.

Cleanliness is frequently commended, with guests describing the house as spotless, immaculate, and very well maintained. Fresh linen, fluffy towels, and a high standard of presentation are repeatedly noted.

The location is universally praised, with guests loving the breathtaking views, tranquil setting, and immediate access to walking trails on the Long Mynd. Proximity to Church Stretton and local attractions is also appreciated.

The property is described as spacious, cosy, and comfortable, with ample room for large groups. However, a few guests mention uncomfortable beds and a tricky step in the master bedroom, which slightly affects the overall comfort rating.

Facilities are generally excellent, with a well-equipped kitchen, multiple bathrooms, and amenities like an Aga and playroom. Occasional issues with showers, the dishwasher, and limited crockery are noted but do not detract significantly from the overall experience.

Many guests mention thoughtful touches such as generous welcome hampers, toiletries, and a ready-to-light fire. While these gestures are highly appreciated, it should be noted that such gifts are not guaranteed for every stay.

Two well-behaved dogs welcome (small additional charge), however we do ask that your dogs are restricted to the main hallway, utility room, kitchen and dining room. Thank you for your co-operation. Please be aware, dogs must be kept on leads whilst walking The Long Mynd. This is National Trust land where sheep roam freely.

To hire a hot tub for your stay, please contact Martin at the Shrewsbury Hot Tub company on 07989 036708. We kindly ask guests to bringing their own beach towels when hiring the hot tub.

Barbecue and large Kadai fire bowl for cooking and camp fire.

The AGA runs all year at the Oaks. During exceptional hot summer spells (which are difficult to predict more than a couple of days in advance!) the kitchen can feel uncomfortably hot during the day. The best way to deal with this is to open doors and windows to give a cross flow of air. The house is situated on an open hill side and even on summer evenings the AGA can give a pleasant background warmth.

Whilst the house has a Neff electric hob, double oven and microwave, the AGA gives increased cooking capacity and a 'special cooking' experience. Therefore the AGA will be alight when you arrive at the Oaks unless you advise us otherwise.

Catering service provided by Batchcott & Waller. Three course local dinner or fridge and freezer options.

The Oaks is a beautiful property situated in a stunning location. Wonderful views from every aspect and the opportunity for some lovely walks from right outside the front door. Inside, the house is spacious enough to accommodate 10 adults in comfort and is equipped to a standard that leaves you wanting for nothing. Rural Retreats were very easy to deal with; real, helpful people on the end of the phone or quick to respond to emails. We used Batchcott and Waller, the caterers recommended in the information sent by Rural Retreats after I'd booked The Oaks. This was a real highlight of our stay. Jess, the chef, arrived bang on time, produced a delicious 3 course meal, cleared everything away, left the kitchen spotless, all with no fuss. All we had to do was eat and drink. I realise that this may all sound a bit "gushing", but our family really loved our stay at The Oaks and we could not fault it in anyway.
