About this property

This charming, traditional black and white cottage lies in the delightful village of Pencombe in Herefordshire. It is perfect for walkers, cyclists and families seeking a get-away in a spectacular rural setting. Comfortable and newly renovated, Causeway Cottage maintains many original features and sits on a lovely, spacious property with terraced garden, fishpond and outdoor dining area. The lower level of the two-story cottage includes a welcoming dining room and a comfortable sitting room. With exposed wooden beams, some original “wattle,” this room relays the nostalgic charm of this listed, historical building. The kitchen is well-equipped with new, modern appliances and an area for informal dining that looks onto the garden patio. The upstairs offers three cosy bedrooms and beautiful views onto the gardens and village church steeple beyond. The spacious garden is a stand out feature of this property. It includes a lovely terraced patio area for outside dining and a well-established pond with goldfish and lily pads. A sloping lawn leads to a small orchard with apple, damson and cherry trees. A brook with a footbridge and nearby washing pool flows just beyond the edge of the property. The whole setting is surrounded by flowers, trees and hedges. Pencombe’s village center is nearby, and the local pub serving hot meals is an easy 5-minute stroll from the cottage. Walking, riding and cycling paths abound in this beautiful, classic rural landscape, with working farms and nearby National Heritage sites. Bromyard, a lovely historical market town with shops and restaurants is just 3 miles away – with many charming villages and Leominster, Hereford and Worcester within a 15-mile radius. Please Note: The garden is enclosed with hedges and three-rail fences and the garden pond does have a safety cover. However, because of this water feature, as well as the nearby brook and washing pool, parents are advised that children – and especially young children without basic water safety – must be closely supervised.

The thriving village of Pencombe is surrounded by farmland, beautifully situated amidst lovely Herefordshire countryside, just 3 miles from the delightful, medieval market town of Bromyard. Located between the cathedral cities of Hereford and Worcester, Pencombe is the perfect base for touring the surrounding counties renowned for their outstanding scenery, boasting scenic walks and cycle trails, great nature watching opportunities and of course, a wealth of historical houses and gardens scattered throughout the area. Nearby Bromyard has an air of timelessness with many half-timbered buildings, helping visitors relax amongst a good range of pubs, restaurants and shops, whilst the cathedral town of Hereford dates back to Saxon times, and with its medieval bridge over the winding River Wye it is the very image of picturesque England. With a mix of buildings from almost every British era, eclectic Hereford is a popular base for those seeking to explore the locale – being ideally placed for accessing the ‘Black and White’ villages of the region, not to mention the delights of neighbouring Shropshire, Worcestershire and The Cotswolds. This lovely location has plenty to offer, at any time of year!

Nice that a few things like milk and some tea bags were provided to start with. Very comfortable beds. Great view of the church from the cottage. The parking arrangement proved a slight challenge for 2 cars, when we needed to swap them around depending on who was driving. But it wasn’t too difficult and added to the quirky feeling of the place. It would have been great to have a full length mirror in one or both of the double bedrooms but that’s the only thing we’d change. We had a great stay and would especially recommend The Falcon hotel in Bromyard to eat at. Open from Tues for food and providing huge portions at very low prices. Great choice of dishes too and all homemade. Tues night is Folk music night too, not sure if that’s every week.

Beautiful village, and country, especially in autumn. Ideal for Bodenham Nature Reserve and Queen's Wood Forest park. Wheelwright's is a welcoming and busy village pub, with good, standard food.

The cottage is in a very quiet location and provides a superb base for exploring the Black and White Village Trail, Leominster, Ledbury and several National Trust properties. The cottage is comfortable, very clean and well equipped. Joy Hedgeland
