The Downton Estate extends to nearly 5,000 acres and is located in the spectacular, wooded and hilly countryside of the Shropshire/Herefordshire borders, close to the Welsh Marches. Ludlow, just four miles away, is a thriving medieval market town, an architectural gem with a splendid castle, situated on a cliff above the River Teme. The town has an unusually high concentration of top quality restaurants, an impressive variety of specialist food shops, ancient buildings and the celebrated Broad Street is a must. During the year, the town is busy hosting an array of events and festivals.

Completely refurbished during 2015 to an exceptional eclectic and contemporary style, here is a lovely base, not only for walkers, but also those wanting to explore all of the many interesting towns and villages, as well as historic houses and gardens that Herefordshire and Shropshire have to offer.
Perfect as a group booking for a special celebration or gathering, just a mile away, and still on this lovely estate are: The Cart Shed (sleeping four guests); The Stone Barn (sleeping two guests) and The Timber Barn (also sleeping two guests).

Very high standard, comfortable and clean accommodation in beautiful surroundings. The very large enclosed garden was perfect for the dog. The kitchen was very well equipped and clean, and each bedroom being ensuite made things so much easier with 6 people. Would recommend and would like to return.
