Golcar, locally pronounced "Goh-ker," is a community situated 2.5 miles from Huddersfield along the Colne River and the Huddersfield Narrow Canal. It is perched on a hilltop crest above the Colne Valley. Golcar, a weaving centre that was crucial to the Industrial Revolution, now serves as a lovely vacation destination. It has charming cobblestone streets, local shops like an award-winning farm shop and restaurant, the Golcar Brewery, a butcher, bakery, delicatessen, and a variety of inns and eateries. Enjoy breath-taking walks through imposing moorland scenery, along the river or canal side to the charming villages of Slaithwaite and Marsden on one side of Golcar, or directly into the centre of the sizable market town of Huddersfield with its excellent leisure facilities and fine Victorian architecture, on the other side of the river.
