Firstly the kitchen, it is rather dated with a raeburn oven with just a single oven, this oven is not even close to being large enough for a five bedroom house, it has just two shelves and it’s temperature is not stable. We managed to burn pretty much everything we cooked in it as we used the portable ‘oven thermometer’ and put the food in when it got to temperature but the temperature kept increasing. The kitchen sinks were badly chipped with black mouldy sealant and mouldy block worksurface ingrained in the wood which also has multiple other stains and marks, it’s just really tatty. The dishwasher falls forward when you pull out a drawer to unload. The dining table is not big enough to sit 9 people as it’s way too narrow, the ‘planks’ on the table are warped and the plates wobble. The crockery is chipped and mismatched so it was very hard to have a lovely meal with family. The equipment was sparse, and some of it broken, there were no serving dishes and serving spoons. There is no extractor hood over the hob so it was really steamy when you were cooking on the hob, we had to open windows and the back door which was a challenge when the outside temperature was 12 degrees and even worse when it was raining and 8 degrees. The bedrooms were tasteful in appearance, but the bed linen though clean to look at, was musty and smelt of cigarette smoke, the beds were very hard and uncomfortable. The water pressure in the showers was very poor and the water ran out after 2-3 showers so we staggered them out through the morning to allow the water to reheat, so disappointing at it took about 3 hours to ensure everyone was showered before we went out in the morning. We booked for 3 nights but left after 2 as we couldn’t face another uncomfortable night and then the shower stress in the morning. Such a shame as the style and design of the house has so much potential. It needs a double oven, an extractor hood, a fitted dishwasher, the block worktop needs to be sanded and reseated and the sinks need reenamelling, it also needs much better lighting in the kitchen to cook at the hob as the few lights though stylish, are not even close to bright enough to cook with. The courtyard garden looked stylish though we didn’t use it. We have been staying at Best of Suffolk marketed properties for over 10 years and found the standards have dropped considerably over the last couple of years. We would not recommend this house as the cost does not reflect the quality, should the issues be addressed, it could be a good holiday home as the location is perfect.
