Guests say

Beachwood Cottage in Lowestoft offers a stunning sea view and is praised for its cleanliness, wildlife, and private setting. Guests enjoy the tranquil location, proximity to nature, and dog-friendly environment. Some concerns over maintenance and misleading information are noted, but the overall experience is highly regarded, with many looking forward to returning.

The property is frequently described as extremely clean and well-kept, with several guests highlighting its superb cleanliness. However, one review mentioned issues with mould and cleanliness of certain items, slightly affecting the overall score.

The location is highly praised for its amazing views, privacy, and proximity to nature and wildlife. The cliff-top setting is seen as an advantage by most, though one review found the description misleading. The presence of a nudist beach nearby was a negative for one guest.

Many guests find the lodge comfortable, with a relaxing atmosphere and enjoyable wildlife watching. However, some guests mentioned uncomfortable beds and pillows, which suggests room for improvement in this area.

The lodge is well-equipped according to several reviews, with a hot tub being a highlight. Nonetheless, there are multiple mentions of maintenance issues such as broken outdoor furniture and a need for updates, which impacts the score.

While a welcome pack with Prosecco is mentioned, there are not enough references to thoughtfulness-related amenities or gestures to accurately score this category. It should be noted that such gifts are a kind gesture and not guaranteed.

I do not like leaving negative feedback, but I want to make anyone thinking of booking Beachwood aware of our experience. This accommodation is privately owned, and the owner Dorothy lives abroad. Her name and contact number are provided with the booking information along with the housekeeper Petra's details. We contacted Petra 30 minutes before the book-in time on Friday to check if we could access the accommodation early and she told us there was a problem with the hot tub. This was disappointing as we only booked Beachwood because it had a hot tub and we had hoped to make full use of it during our stay. When speaking to Petra about this issue, she told us she is "only a cleaner" and directed us to Dorothy but when we contacted Dorothy, she told us that she didn't want the hot tub and her husband Shaun deals with this. She was quite rude and dismissive and suggested my partner have a bath instead! We were asked to leave the key in the key safe for the engineer as they needed to access the electrics in the accommodation. I was not too happy about this as we had valuables with us and had planned to explore the area so I was worried about who would be accessing the accommodation when we weren't there. Dorothy said she would stay in if it was her which was not at all helpful or understanding of the situation. Our contact with Dorothy made what should have been a relaxing holiday quite stressful. Her responses were defensive and unhelpful. Dorothy provided me with Shaun's contact details and I tried to call him and message him once but he did not respond at all. Moving on to Beachwood itself. It is described as luxury accommodation but from our experience of staying in similar places, we would say it is 3-star accommodation at very best. There are several damaged / broken fixtures and fittings and stains on the sofa, carpet and beds. From the reviews, we knew the shower head needed to be replaced but it was also dirty and covered in limescale. We knew there was mould on the single bed, but the room also smelt damp and musty. We didn't need to use the room but if I had children or anyone else staying with me, I would have been concerned about this. We also found that the bathroom soap and toothbrush holders were all chipped and broken (glued together) and the main bed was also broken. The decking was very slippery. A small fence has been provided for dogs as there is an open drop / cliff edge at the end of the decking area. The fencing wasn't suitable so if you have children or dogs that want to explore you need to keep an eye on them as they might not be safe. The photos show 2 rattan garden chairs to relax in (we have the same ones at home) but there was only 1 chair so the other may have been broken. The TV is quite an old model with limited Freeview channels. We had issues connecting to Netflix and when we contacted Dorothy, we were told that the TV didn't have Netflix and often, any issues are down to "user error". The engineer didn't come out to look at the hot tub until Sunday morning. He told us that he needed to order a part and it could take up to a week to arrive. We had asked Dorothy to keep us informed of the situation but heard nothing from her all week until late Thursday morning when she messaged to say the hot tub was repaired the previous day. When we checked, there was no power or heat to the hot tub. We were able to switch it on, but the engineer had previously told us it would take a day to warm up so we didn't bother switching it on as we were returning home the following morning. Beachwood is situated on a lovely holiday park which is beautifully kept and in an ideal location with stunning views out to the sea. You will see lots of wildlife and the beach is a short walk away but is not directly accessed from the accommodation. The park staff were friendly and couldn't have been more helpful. We visited the beach several times and it was lovely to be able to look out to and hear the sea on our doorstep - it would have been amazing to enjoy this from the hot tub. We also visited Gorleston on Sea, Hopton and Lowestoft. We both work very hard and this was a much needed break. It was also my birthday during our stay so we tried to make the best of it despite the accommodation issues and poor customer service we received from the owner. On the whole, we don't feel we got what we expected or paid for which was a 5 star, luxury lodge with a hot tub. We would definitely stay at this holiday park again but we would not return to Beachwood.

A gem of a place. The location is fantastic with an amazing view from the lodge itself. Beechwood is private, very well-equipped and extremely clean. The park is lovely, beautifully landscaped and it was lovely to see all the wildlife right on your doorstep. Very dog friendly - my three just sat at the end of the decking staring out to sea. We're already looking at dates for a return visit as we can't wait to return.

What a gorgeous lodge, the view is amazing & the wildlife is fantastic, yes there’s a cliff but that makes it more secure & private plus it definitely stops people wandering off the beach which is only a 10 minute walk away. The nature reserve is lovely as well, we also took advantage of the dog washing station which kept our two labs sand & mud free which is a great bonus.
