Surrounding the village is some of the most beautiful countryside you’ll find anywhere, so is a great area for getting out and about exploring with some fantastic walks, hikes and bike rides to be had. Just a few miles away are bigger towns such as Woodbridge, Aldeburgh and Southwold with attractions such as Snape Maltings, Framlingham Castle and Yoxford Antiques Centre and Gardens also nearby. The quaint Somerset village of Odcombe nestles on a hillside close to the vibrant town of Yeovil. It is actually a village of two distinct parts, Higher Odcombe, near the top of the hill with its impressive village church, and Lower Odcombe with its pretty cottages and friendly village pub, which is well known for its local micro-brewery. Mentioned in the Domesday Book, many of the cottages have been built from the lovely warm coloured hamstone, quarried locally, giving the village a charming olde-worlde atmosphere. The adjacent village of Montacute is most well known for Montacute House a superb Elizabethan mansion with stunning gardens, now managed by the National Trust, widely used as a location for films including ‘Wolf Hall’ and ‘Sense and Sensibility’. Nearby Yeovil offers a good selection of shops and restaurants, as well as a lively theatre, multi-cinema and 10-pin bowling alley. An easy drive takes you to Yeovilton's Fleet Air Arm Museum, or Haynes Motor Museum, and also within reach are Ham Hill Country Park, Ninesprings Country Park and a number of National Trust properties. Alternatively, explore mystical Glastonbury, or the UK's smallest city, Wells, with its majestic cathedral. With ancient Sherborne, and its castles and abbey, as well as the scenic Dorset coastline both easily accessible, you will find plenty to do within easy reach of this charming Somerset village.
