Enjoy some of the 29 different recorded species of butterflies. With the owner living on site, The Retreat is nestled only a mile from the beach at Thorpeness and 2 miles from Aldeburgh, making it the perfect getaway.

We spent a very relaxing 7 nights here, fantastic location for what we were looking for. Beds were extremely comfortable, kitchen well equipped, very good shower. If you want to get away from it all this is the place to be, you feel very remote but you are not. Always something to see from the balcony and if you like countryside walking then you are in your element. ***If you want to book this then go to Aldeburgh Coastal Cottages who manage this location; you will be pay nearly £200 less than booking it through Cottages.Com***

What a fantastic place. We enjoyed walks from the doorstep every day, into the woods, reed beds (with bird hide), to Thorpeness, Aldeburgh, Sizewell and the Lost World in the garden. The setting is great and to sit on the decking or window seats and just look out at the garden and wildlife was so relaxing. Beds and sofa were really comfy.

If you want total peace and quiet, in a woodland setting, with wildlife but literally only a minutes drive to the main road , this is for you!We spent ages sitting on the decking and also on the window seats inside and saw squirrels, rabbits, deer and lots of different birds. It was really hard to believe that the road to Aldeburgh, with all its attractions and facilities, was so close!We had an excellent holiday.
