About this property

Just a 10 minute walk to the beach, East Lane is a quirky 1960's holiday let ideal for 6. Complete with off-street parking, enclosed garden and woodburning stove.

We guarantee you won't have seen anything like East Lane before! Designed and built in 1965, East Lane is the creation of Swiss-born architect Rudy Mock, who, at the time, had a highly successful career throughout Europe and America. East Lane is one of 6 properties designed as second homes, but whilst all are joined with a carport in the middle in a staggered formation, they remain very much unique and private.

The front door opens onto the open plan living area, with dining and sitting area. French doors and windows line the complete right hand side of the room, giving lovely views of the garden and letting in streams of natural light. The sitting area itself is cosy and inviting. The woodburning stove is a delight to cuddle around in the cooler months; the owner has also provided a very good selection of books, board games, puzzles and DVDs, so there is plenty to keep all ages entertained. To the rear of the living area is the newly fitted kitchen, complete with washing machine and free-standing fridge/freezer. The owners have also recently refurbished the ground floor shower room and family bathroom; each with a slick finish and pastel coloured tiles.

An easy staircase leads to the first floor with 3 bedrooms; 2 doubles and 1 twin.

The garden too is a lovely place to enjoy during the summer months. With a lawned area and covered veranda, children will love running around and enjoying the fresh air; and, as it is fully enclosed, you can leave them unattended.

Parking: There is off street parking for 2/3 cars depending on the length of your vehicles. The single track road is very quiet however, so an additional parking space for the third car can be found on the curb, just in front of the front garden, if required.

Exploring: East Lane really is ideally located for exploring all of the delights that Suffolk has to offer. You needn't travel far to keep everyone entertained. Bawdsey village itself has a recreation ground complete with children's playground, adult exercise equipment, and multi-sports club. There are two courts available to hire at the multi-sports club; one for tennis and the other for basketball, netball and 5-a-side football. The courts can be booked by calling 01394 411626.

Just under a 5 minute walk from East Lane is St Mary the Virgin church. A beautiful building dating back to 13th century. A slightly farther walk will take you to East Lane beach. Predominantly shingle, it is great for paddling, walking, bird spotting and picnics. Here too, you'll also spot two Martello Towers, used to defend the Napoleonic forces in the 1800s. Another, smaller beach can be found at Bawdsey Quay, just a 5 minute drive by car. Here, you can catch a foot ferry across to Felixstowe Ferry - a perfect spot too for walking and crabbing!

Eating and Drinking out: Your closest pub is the Alderton Swan, offering a good selection of traditional 'pub grub'. A short drive by car will take you to the quaint thatched pub called The Sorrell Horse in Shottisham. If you're prepared to drive farther, we recommend a visit to Orford, Snape and Woodbridge, all under 30 minutes away by car.

A cafe can be found at Bawdsey Quay. The Boathouse Cafe serves a selection of homemade goodies including cakes and soups; complete with breathtaking views of the river.

Self catering: The closest shop can be found in Alderton, just a 5 minute drive by car. Here you will be able to buy your basic essentials. Bigger supermarket stores can be found at Martlesham and Woodbridge, although most big name supermarkets will deliver to East Lane.

If you wish to 'shop local' then a local grocer and fishmonger visit Bawdsey village weekly. The grocer calls at the village hall on Thursdays, whilst the fishmonger visits on Wednesdays at 10 am; stopping on the main street and will 'hoot his horn'.
