About this property

About this Bed and Breakfast

Haughley House is a medieval manor house with Georgian additions which now offers five star rated guest accommodation for those who wish to indulge in a little delicious food in a wonderfully historical setting. The house has a rich history evident in the priest hole dating back to the times past when followers of the Catholic faith were persecuted in England. Two (now sealed) passages lead from the house to the nearby church. Among the more famous of the lords to have inhabited the house were Ralph de Broc who murdered Thomas a'Beckett in Canterbury Cathedral and Thomas Tyrell, who murdered the princes in the tower.

Suffolk is an unspoilt corner of England famed for its historical villages, timber framed buildings and magnificent churches. The heritage coast has long been a major draw for tourists and is home to picturesque seaside towns such as Southwold. Among the other attractions to be found within easy reach are the horse racing town of Newmarket, home of the National Stud, and the well known Aldeburgh Festival. The university town of Cambridge is a mere forty minutes drive away and is well worth a visit.

Special to Haughley House B&B

Food is a highlight of any stay at Haughley and your hosts, Caroline and Jeffrey, are accomplished cooks who believe in using the freshest of ingredients, including organic vegetables grown in the kitchen garden. Beef is available from their own traditionally reared cattle and all game is from their own land. Pre-dinner drinks can be enjoyed in the oak panelled drawing room and afternoon tea can be taken in the garden or in the Victorian greenhouse during the cooler months.
