    About this property

Eye 3 miles. A pretty, semi-detached cottage tucked away up a quiet lane, in the small hamlet of Thornham Magna just three miles from Eye. This charming cottage is perfect for those wishing to escape into a rural idyll in the heart of the Suffolk countryside. Retaining much character, this cottage has wonderful heavy beamed ceilings, beautiful old doors and a rustic inglenook fireplace housing a cosy woodburning stove. Warm and welcoming, the cottage boasts a modern kitchen and underfloor heating, whilst the wooden spiral staircase leads up to two comfortable bedrooms. From the sitting room, French doors open on to the garden, a quiet spot to sit and relax in. You can walk in three different directions to join the walking trails on the Thornham Estate, which include bird hides and woodland paths, plus some of these paths are suitable for push chairs. Thornham Magna has a lovely gift shop and cafe, which is situated at the Red House Yard, the main entrance and car park for Thornham Walks, plus a children's play area is located here. A one mile walk away is a pub offering good locally produced beer and food, and the village of Gislingham, just 1.5 miles away, also has a pub, a children's play area and shops selling locally produced food and drink. The nearby town of Eye also offers a variety of shops, pubs and restaurants, whilst the historic market town of Diss has quaint narrow streets with a host of interesting shops and a central six acre mere. An hour's drive brings you to the scenic coastline of Suffolk and the popular seaside resort of Southwold with its long pier and painted beach huts. A lovely cottage in a tranquil setting amidst the pretty Suffolk countryside.

With a number of shops, pubs and restaurants, the small town of Eye is a well-served town located in the heart of East Anglia. With monthly cinema nights held at the community centre, this charming location is just five miles away from the market town of Diss in the beautiful Waveney Valley. With examples of Georgian and Edwardian buildings as well as an award winning museum and the public park, Eye is a thriving community offering plenty to do. There is a market every Friday and coincides with a local antiques and collectables auction. The town of Stowmarket is close by and provides an 18-hole golf course along with Suffolk's only open-air museum and a variety of shops and pubs. The Suffolk Coast, Thetford Forest with its Go Ape high wire experience and the Steam Museum at Bressingham are all within easy driving distance.

"Lovely walks. We had a nice rest and family time which was needed many thanks"
    Mr Marshall ‐ 1 Aug 2019
" Needed an upgrade all round and garden was very scruffy, directions poor and house had a damp smell. It could have been lovely but at the price it was set, very poor I am afraid. "

"No details of walks round local villages or doctor/vet/shop/etc. Scrappy hand scrawled notes on how to deal with changing gas bottles."

"The furniture is uncomfortable, the general standard of fittings is poor. It’s quite a cosy place but should be a bit cheaper. We found the cottage quite grubby, very dusty etc, and had to clean out the log burner before we could use it. It’s an ok place just not good value for money, I’ve stayed in much better at the same cost."

"This cottage is expensive for what it offers. The furniture is uncomfortable, the general standard of fittings is poor. It’s quite a cosy place but should be a bit cheaper. "Sitting room is warm and inviting although the wood burning stove was difficult to keep going, chimney needs to be swept regularly. Lovely bathroom with 2 reasonable sized bedrooms. Very private and quiet, we didn’t see a soul in the week we were there. Good to get away from it all."

"Great cottage in a remote location but with all modern conveniences. Sitting room is warm and inviting although the wood burning stove was difficult to keep going, chimney needs to be swept regularly. Lovely bathroom with 2 reasonable sized bedrooms. Very private and quiet, we didn’t see a soul in the week we were there. Good to get away from it all."
    Mrs Hearn
"Kitchen would have benefitted from a free cupboard (or shelf) for our weekly provisions, instead we had to clutter the worktops and keep tins etc in the bags we bought them in. Everything else was great! A stairgate on the slippery stairs would be the only thing I would suggest as a necessity, especially as dogs are not allowed upstairs and children could easily slip. A relaxing week, we will definitely be making a return visit."

"Dogs wanted to go upstairs. Had to keep front room door shut. Maybe a gate at bottom of stairs."

"This is a great cottage in the quiet Suffolk countryside. Yes it could do with some updating but all we needed was there. Dog walking is on the doorstep, the cottage is warm and very cozy. A 20 minute walk gets you to the four horseshoes pub which is a lovely place. Takes dogs and very welcoming. Could be a place that children may not enjoy. More an adults with dog place. Give it a go if you want real countryside and peace."
    Mrs Knight
    "Great pub in the village."

"We are local to the area we stayed here while waiting for service connections to a new home. It is on the Thornham walks location where you can explore woodlands and take your dog. Local attractions include market town Diss Norfolk with the mere. You may like to go to the coast Southwold and Aldeburgh are very select seaside towns with independent shops and cafe's as well as brand names shops. The cottage is well equipped and comfortable and there are good local inns for meals out but for a really special meal out book an evening at the Weavers in Diss you will not be dissapointed the food is fabulous and always served hot with a lovely atmosphere"
    Mr Robbins
"The only issue was the sloppy cleaning ... we found dirty washing under the main bed and behind the door in the main bedroom . Surfaces definitely hadn’t been dusted between guests and whilst the kitchens and bathrooms were clean enough the other rooms just needed more time spent on them.. The amount of wood left for the fire was inadequate we ran out half way through the first evening ... That said we did enjoy our stay we took the dogs for lots of walks and visited the coast all of which contributed to a relaxing weekend ."
    Mr Langley
"Would definitely consider coming back and highly recommend it!! Thanks for a great holiday!"

    Mrs Carter
"The cottage is set in the middle of the countryside surrounded by walks which was ideal for us. We also visited Thetford Forest which is a short drive away and there are several other places of interest, if we had taken a young family. Attractive cottage, well kept and maintained, with an enclosed garden and log fire, what more could you wish for."

    Mrs Hardie
"It was a lovely rustic cottage and as described, secluded with only one neighbour. Cockerels in the morning and chickens wandering around as they pleased. And the sound of birds, magical. The cottage was a delight to stay in and was lovely and warm with the wood burner, it felt very homely."
    Miss Lisa Kenney, Ramsgate, Kent
"Very peaceful, we were able to completely shut ourselves away from the world. Gorgeous woodwork throughout the cottage. Had everything we needed."
    Mr Peter Williams, Sidcup,
"If your looking for peace and quiet this is the place, heard nothing at night except an owl ."
    Mrs Spencer, Worksop, Nottinghamshire
"It was a wonderful location, so peaceful and relaxing. "
