Guests say

Ploughman's Cottage in Eye, Suffolk, is a characterful property with a cosy wood burner and a secure garden, situated in a friendly village with good local amenities and a welcoming pub. The cottage is well-equipped and offers comfortable beds and a clean environment. While the narrow spiral staircase and proximity to a busy road are noted, the charm of the cottage and its location are frequently praised.

The cottage generally receives positive remarks for cleanliness, with guests noting fresh linen and a clean environment. However, there are isolated comments about cobwebs, flies, and a lack of housekeeping items upon arrival, which slightly impact the overall high standard of cleanliness.

The location is appreciated for its beautiful village setting and proximity to local amenities and walks. However, some guests mention traffic noise and difficulty with parking, which affects the tranquillity expected from a cottage in a rural village.

Guests find the beds comfortable and the cottage cosy, especially with the wood burner. However, the spiral staircase presents challenges for some, and the proximity of the toilet to the bath is noted as inconvenient. The heat during summer and noise from the road also detract from the overall comfort for some guests.

The cottage is well-equipped, particularly the kitchen, but there are several reports of issues with appliances and maintenance, such as lighting problems, difficulties with the hob, and heating issues. The lack of a shower curtain and challenges with the spiral staircase are also mentioned.

There is insufficient information to assess thoughtfulness as there are no specific mentions of gifts or special touches provided by the hosts. Therefore, a score cannot be given in this category.

A compact property in a very pretty Suffolk village providing a good base to visit and explore what the area has to offer

Overall, the cottage description was fair but I feel the trials of the circular staircase were not emphasized enough. It was treacherous, especially as it was painted with gloss - don't use in socks or stockinged feet! I had the adjacent curtains off the wall at one point. The toilet is tight between the roll top bath and wall. Anyone of a wide girth might struggle. It's a nice cottage in a lovely village but certainly not for the infirm, elderly or anyone with weight or mobility issues.

The stove was the biggest drawback - very difficult to use despite reading instructions. The touchpad on hob was not always responsive to pressure and the hot plates could switch themselves off for no reason. The oven itself was also extremely difficult, not always heating up and delaying our supper more than once. It seemed to get muddled up with timer mode, but even this wasn't consistent. Basically the technology is far too 'clever' and complicated and for older people who use the cottage nothing can beat a simple old fashioned stove with knobs! Otherwise the garden and outside area was lovely and the appearance and location of cottage.
