About this property

The lovely Gothic House Cottage is part of a Grade II listed building, and has the benefit of an open and airy extension overlooking the garden whilst retaining the cosy cottage feel. A perfect base from which to explore the rich heritage of West Suffolk, with the added bonus of the use of an outdoor, heated swimming pool and grass tennis court in the warmer months.

The cottage is situated opposite the imposing Church of St Peter and St Paul in Clare, which sits in the Upper Stour Valley. It is ideally placed, just a five minute walk from the shops, restaurants and pubs in Clare and within walking distance of the Country Park, where the remains of Clare Castle stand. With so much on the doorstep, you can park the car up for your stay until it's time to head home.

The ground floor of the cottage has an open and airy living space with a large dining kitchen and garden room with floor to ceiling windows providing lovely views over the extensive garden at the rear. The sitting room has an electric, living flame stove to gather around when night time draws in. Upstairs, both bedrooms overlook the church and have the choice of the first floor bathroom with separate shower, or the ground floor shower room. Bedroom two has the flexibility of a super-king size bed which can be separated into twin single beds on request.

Outside, a small, enclosed garden and courtyard has access to a shed to store bicycles if you fancy exploring the local countryside on two wheels; along with use of an additional, larger garden beyond. The outdoor, heated swimming pool is available for the use of guests from mid-May until September by reserving it with the homeowners. There is also a grass tennis court which although not by any means Wimbledon championship standard, guests are welcome to use and enjoy as well, again normally from mid-May to September.

Spotlessly clean and ease of access excellent. The treats were an awesome surprise and meant we didn’t have to find anywhere to eat on our late arrival. Shower downstairs was brilliant. Everything needed in the kitchen was there. The outlook was superb. Parking may be an issue in busier months.

Such a beautiful property with stunning grounds, with the added bonus to be able to see the deer eating fruit from the orchard. The town was idyllic with plenty of beautiful walks and historic sites to visit. Not to mention the delicious food in the restaurants nearby. The hosts were wonderful and communicative and really made us feel welcome. Our little welcome gifts were such a nice touch.
