Alton 2 miles. This stone-built detached cottage, a former smithy, is located in the small hamlet of Great Gate, close to Alton. Lovingly furnished by its owners it retains many of the cottage's original features and offers beautiful accommodation for a family or couples looking to explore this area. Walking into the open plan living area with its exposed beams, original lead windows, and quarry tiled floors you immediately appreciate the character and cosiness of the property. The fireplace houses an electric fire ideal to snuggle up in front of on the comfortable settee after a busy day. The kitchen is well equipped with everything you need to prepare a family meal, and the dining area has enough room for you all to sit together as you reminisce about the day’s adventures. Also on the ground floor there is a reading room. The staircase adds further character with its exposed stone walls and beams. Upstairs are two bedrooms a double and a twin. There is a real sense of history in this property with the bedrooms having beams and sloping ceilings and the doors being of stripped wood with some low doorways, so please mind your heads! The twin room has wonderful views over the countryside through the leaded windows. The shower room on the first floor is rustic and in keeping with the character of the property. This cottage is located in a small hamlet but the local pub is less than a mile away and for thrill-seekers the delights of Alton Towers theme park is under a 10 minute drive away. Enjoy a visit to the English Heritage Croxden Abbey and wander around the impressive ruins. This area has plenty of opportunities for walking and cycling and the Peak District National Park is easily accessible with its market towns and historic houses. Stoke on Trent is a short drive where you can immerse yourself in the history of the potteries at The Potteries Museum and Art Gallery.
