    About this property

    Gatekeeper Lodge is a six bedroom country house located within a large estate. It is surrounded by some magnificent scenery, with beautiful woodland and rolling fields surrounding the house.

    The Estate has been a very popular hunting ground throughout history. In fact it has proved to be a popular place for Royalty to visit in years gone by. The surrounding Estate has 1100 acres of surrounding Hunting and Sporting rights, as well as over 100 acres of Woodland and 50 acres of pasture land.

    Gatekeeper Lodge is conveniently located just off the A518, 3 miles from Stafford town centre, 7 miles from Uttoxeter, 5 miles from Stone and 8 miles from Rugeley. Importantly, access to the M6 motorway is only a 3 mile drive, with both Manchester and Birmingham approximately a 40 minute drive away. Inter city trains are available at Stafford station which is on the West Coast mainline with London Euston only 1 hour and 20 minutes away. East Midlands airport is also less than 1 hours travel.

    For very keen walkers, the beautiful Peak District is only a 40 minute drive away. Cannock Chase is a 10 minute drive away, also providing a wonderful playground for hikers, horse riders and bike lovers.

    There are an abundance of lovely local pubs to be enjoyed. The closest pub is in the village of Salt which borders the Estate and is called The Hollybush Inn. This pub is the second oldest registered pub in the UK, has won many awards for its food and ale and is also listed in the Good Food Guide. There are also two good pubs in Weston, The Saracens Head and The Woolpack Inn. Weston Hall is also located only one minutes drive from the house and offers a fabulous bar and restaurant.

    For golf lovers, the Lodge is only a short drive from lots of fantastic courses including the highly renowned Brocton, Ingestre and Uttoxeter courses. For horse enthusiasts, the very popular Ingestre stables are 5 minutes drive away too.

    There are an array of attractions and potential activities surrounding the Lodge. Trentham Monkey Park and Floral Garden Estate is a 15 minute drive away. Paintballing at Penkridge is also a 15 minute drive. The Cinema, Bowling Alley, Stafford Castle, Riley's Snooker and Pool hall and Stafford's bars and nightclubs are all within a 10 minute drive from the house. The County Showground is only a couple of minutes drive too.

    Children and adrenaline seekers will be pleased to know that Alton Towers is only a 45 minute drive.

    For the sporty there are an array of gyms and sports centres to choose from, and swimmers can enjoy the pool at the main sports centre. For children who love slides, Waterworld is only a 30 minute drive away in Hanley.


    Gatekeeper Lodge benefits from a multitude of exclusive features including underfloor heating on the ground floor, piped music throughout ground and first floor, handmade bespoke oak kitchen and a utility room based on arts and crafts most famous new York furniture maker.

    In the kitchen there is a large AGA fridge and freezer, seperate double drawer, AGA fridge, LPG AGA four door range cooker, seperate AGA on demand and an LPG cooker with gas hobs, ideal for use in the summer when range AGA can be switched off. Water filtration at the two kitchen sinks.

    The utitlity room offers: Bosch washing machine, Bosch Dryer, Leiberr dual zone wine cooler and seperate beverage fridge.

    In addition there is a central broadband server with wall points in all bedrooms, a handmade oak fireplace with log burner in the main living room. There are solid oak floors throughout the main house and stone floors in kitchen and utility room.

    There are three en-suite double rooms on the first floor, two King size and one double.  There is also another 'Double en-suite room' on the first floor with a King size bed.  The top floor has two bedrooms, one with a King size Bed and the other is a flexible room which can be set up as two singles or as a Super King double.  These two rooms have a shared family bathroom.

    Furniture includes: handmade copper lamps from Bishops Castle Galleries, handmade massai figures from Africa, a collection of handmade glass chickens from China, lighting from Portugal, flowers from Ruckley and oak furniture from Canada.

    The Estate provides a wonderful playground for nature lovers, with some amazing wildlife and plant life. There are some extremely exciting features within the Estate. There is a beautiful ravine which, through the wetter winter months, turns into a glorious waterfall.

    There are also the Tinkerborough Caves, that used to be part of the Tinkerborough Cottages. Located by David's Rock these caves have panoramic views and look back towards the Idyllic village of Salt. There is also a great cave to explore around the corner from the Tinkerborough site. The grotto like cave provides a lovely place to sit and have a drink, enjoying the peace and quiet and beautiful surrounding countryside. 

    The Lodge is surrounded by some fabulous walks. There are a plethora of footpaths available and a huge stretch of bridleway available for horse lovers. The river and Canal are both extremely close for great walks. The Estate enjoys the sporting and fishing rights along a huge stretch of the river.
