About this property

Avon Lodge puts the glam into glamping. This fabulous rustic wooden lodge promises an unforgettable escape from the humdrum of everyday life. It offers two bedrooms, one a double and one a twin, a shower room, a living space with a kitchen, beautiful outdoor space, a hot tub and a wood burning stove for a crackling atmosphere. It is a mini haven for hunkering down with walking boots and a good book or three as serenity awaits. It is the perfect abode for a spot of switch off with the beautiful Kennet and Avon canal and tranquil towpath walks moments away. You will feel the tranquility fold around you and can crank up the wood burner if a rural chill descends on your evening.

Avon Lodge is located in the village of Seend with its delightful post office, village shop and pub within walking distance. This magical setting is between Melksham and Devizes in the heart of the Wiltshire countryside. Bath is close by with its wonderful historic attractions and the National Trust properties, Lacock Abbey, Great Chalfield Manor and Westwood Manor, are all nearby. Stonehenge is only half an hour away. Guests enjoy fabulous walks in the North Wessex Downs, the Cotswolds and Cranborne Chase, all glorious Areas of Outstanding Natural Beauty.

The lodge beckons relaxation seekers, walkers and those that just want to get away from it all. It is hard not to fall in love with Avon Lodge for its simplicity and its beautiful touches. It offers an opulent glamping experience that will make you want to come back for more. The main living space offers a comfy sofa adorned with scatter cushions and throws, a big beanbag, a rustic table and chairs, a beautiful rug, the wood burning stove and a good kitchen. It enjoys a very warm ambience, made all the more cosy by the fire. There are two bedrooms, one with a double bed and the other with twins, both cosy little nests. The bathroom comes with a walk-in shower.

Outside there is a lovely garden where you can enjoy the birdsong and peace. The terrace outside the cabin comes with bench seating, two chairs and a fabulous hatch through to the kitchen with bar seating. It is so lovely, very sociable and with easy access for food and drink. The outdoor seating is comfy with soft cushions, scatter cushions and throws for chilly evenings. There is an outdoor fire pit and tucked around the corner, your private hot tub. This is just perfect for an indulgent dip under the stars and with a glass of fizz in your hand.

Avon Lodge enjoys a wonderful rural location in the village of Seend, between Melksham and Devizes. Just a short stroll away is the lovely Kennet and Avon canal and Caen Hill Locks where you can enjoy blissful walks and watch the boats. The canal stretches for eighty seven miles linking London with the Bristol Channel and passing through some spectacular landscapes in Wiltshire and the rolling Cotswolds. The five locks at Seend were once a hive of activity with trade but today they are a picture of tranquility. The beautiful Caen Hill locks were designed by canal engineer John Rennie and were the last part of the canal to be completed in 1810. It is a very beautiful spot with twenty nine locks in total over two miles.

Melksham is a lovely historic market town on the banks of the Bristol River Avon with lots of thriving clubs, annual events, cafes, shops and pubs. The town has a beautiful historic quarter with colourfull floral displays. Its events include the annual Food and River Festival in September, the Melksham Music Festival and the annual Melksham Carnival.

Devizes is another historic market town with a colourful medieval past, a wealth of history and architectural heritage with more than five hundred listed buildings and a huge market place in the heart of the town. There is a wonderful array of independent shops, a Thursday market and some great attractions including the Wadworth Brewery where you can sample the beer and meet the Shire horses that still deliver to pubs in the town. The Wiltshire Museum enjoys excellent award-winning galleries that feature gold from the times of Stonehenge and tell the story of the Stonehenge and Avebury World Heritage Site.

The National Trust’s Lacock Abbey is a wonderful country house with monastic roots and was once the home of William Henry Fox Talbot, the inventor of the photographic negative. It offers a wonderful day out with beautiful gardens, meandering woodland paths, a historic Rose Garden, an orchard and William Henry Fox Talbot’s Botanic Garden. There is an excellent Fox Talbot Museum which explores the history of photography and has changing photography exhibitions. Lacock Village is a quintessential English village that has hardly changed for two hundred years. It boasts pretty streets lined with timber-framed houses and independent shops.
