Follow the steps down through the slopes of Royal Terrace Gardens and you’ll find yourselves within minutes from Torquay’s marina, the Princess Theatre and Torre Abbey Sands beach. The Princess Gardens make a popular spot to lie back in the sun on a summer’s day, and Torre Abbey just behind them is one of the bay’s most popular attractions.

The photographs and text describing Dartmouth do not do it justice. When I emailed photographs taken from the lounge window my first reply was "Is this really England?" The views are spectacular. The apartment is very spacious with plenty of room for four. Everything is extremely clean and well presented. The bed was very comfortable and I succumbed to sitting in bed with my morning tea, watching the sea and sky. The shower room is a little small but there is lots of hot water and towels and toiletries were excellent, as were cleaning products for the kitchen and kitchen linen. Do not be put off by there not being a balcony. The garden seating has just been replaced and views are good from there. It's an easy descent through the garden gate to the sea front though there are steps. I only climbed back up through the garden once.. It is more than 200 steps from beach to apartment but I am almost 70 and taxis are frequent and not expensive. I usually got a bus to the top of the hill and walked a few minutes - twice late at night after theatre visits in Brixham and Paignton. I felt perfectly safe doing this. Congratulations to the caring owners and building manager who both were at pains to make sure I knew to contact them if there were any problems. I didn't have any. Returning to Torquay I would return to Dartmouth - and for longer if I was able to bring my dog!
