About this property

Set in the heart of Dunster is this endearing, end of terrace cottage, Bodkin Cottage. Beautifully presented with character features throughout, Bodkin Cottage welcomes families seeking a traditional abode in North Somerset. Head up the steps through the stable door into the sitting room, complete with flagstone flooring, rug and a traditional woodburning stove, it’s a homely spot to gather your thoughts after a long day. As hunger strikes, step into the well-appointed kitchen and prepare a hearty dish, making use of the appliances on offer, before settling down at the dining table and toasting a long-awaited break. Venture upstairs and find the bedroom, hosting a double and single bed, whilst the bathroom provides a choice of bath and shower over so you can best decide how to prepare for the day. Head outside and enjoy a moment within the enclosed courtyard, complete with furniture where you can settle to enjoy a morning coffee. The village of Dunster is filled with charm as well as offering plenty of quirky gift shops and grocery stores where you can grab any essentials. When you fancy a night away from the kitchen, there are plenty of pubs and restaurants to sample, whilst you can learn more about the area through the buildings, including the iconic Yarn Market, the remains of a Benedictine priory, a working watermill and Iron Age settlements. Hop in the car and take a short drive to Watchet, home to a pretty harbour, or head west to Porlock, boasting picturesque moorland and rivers along with the rugged coastline of West Somerset. Choose Bodkin Cottage and experience the best of this Somerset location.

The North Somerset shore is close to Dunster, a well-liked tourist destination that has remained largely untouched. The town's historic core still has many old buildings that cling to its twisting cobblestone streets. The castle perches on the hill overlooking the entire hamlet, but the charming Yarn Market, a covered area constructed in 1609 especially to house the wool sellers and other cloth merchants, is the highlight of the High Street. Fine plasterwork ceilings can be found inside Dunster Castle, and the expansive terraced gardens with their beautiful views of the sea and the Quantock Mountains are home to numerous rare shrubs and trees. There are many pathways leading onto the Grabbist surrounding hills and hikes into Dunster's Deer Park at the foot of the castle for people who prefer exploring the surrounding countryside. Dunster is located inside the Exmoor National Park. Traditional inns, unique stores, and interesting locations to explore, such as a running watermill from the 18th century, are all readily available in Dunster. Minehead, the principal resort in West Somerset, is less than three miles away and offers visitors golden sand beaches, seaside activities, and an abundance of cafes, boutiques, and bistros.

It was warm, welcoming and well equipped. The owner is really kind and thoughtful, sending useful information before our stay. It has an excellent location in Dunster village where there are cafes, restaurants and a well stocked delicatessen. We found it was a perfect base for walking.
