Very good house, cosy and reactive host,

Good things: 1) Very spacious grade 2 listed character cottage dating from the late 15th century. 2) Very well equipped with 2 bedrooms, large living room and separate dining room. 3) Private parking and private well-kept garden. It was lovely to enjoy our morning cuppa outside listening to the birds sing.4) When we arrived, there was a welcome of tea, coffee, sugar, milk and biscuits waiting, which meant we could relax a bit before shopping. We were also delighted to find how spacious the house is, and how well equipped the kitchen is. 5) The lack of cupboards in the kitchen meant it took a while to find the crockery and glasses, but when we did, we found enough for a large party! and moved a few to the kitchen table to save our legs at meal times 6) All the saucepans and frying pans were excellent quality, and the induction range was a delight to cook on!Yes the floorboards upstairs are exceedingly creaky, but my sister and I are both a little deaf without our hearing aids in, so it was fine.7) The house was very warm too, even without any heating on.8) Dishwasher tablets were provided, along with soap and towels. There was a co-op supermarket in Wiveliscombe which was 10-15 minutes drive depending on how confident you are on very narrow windy lanes!A few points for improvement though:. 1) The house was generally clean, but cleanliness obviously wasn't professional. E.g In my bedroom (the smaller one) there was a layer of dust down the back of the bed headboard and dust and sweet wrappers under the bed. Behind cupboards was similar. so whoever is employed to clean appears to be only hoovering around the furniture. Also, when we arrived there was an awful smell emanating from the dishwasher, which turned out to be the filter that clearly hadn't been cleaned for a very long time. It was almost full with food waste. It did smell a little better after I had emptied the filter and done couple of cycles though. 2) The kitchen, although much better equipped than most, was lacking a large plastic jug, and also, oddly there was no microwave plate cover.3) The movement sensor light at the top of the landing didn't work, but fortunately we had brought our own - the character and style of the house meant that the large bedroom door doesn't fit, so light from the main landing light shines around the door.4) There is a slug problem. Each morning we got up to slug trails in the living room and kitchen, and unfortunately, when we arrived we noticed that the large wooden bread/chopping board in the kitchen was covered in slug trails too, so we didn't use it. We ensured that no food was left out at any point!5) Some furniture polish and other cleaning equipment would have been helpful. apart from kitchen surface cleaner there was nothing. The dining table got a little greasy from use but I had nothing to clean it with.6) The handle at the top of the stairs was very useful (my mobility isn't best) but it would have been even better to have one the other side too. Could that be considered? Finally, There were no shops within walking distance because the tiny village really is in the middle of nowhere, but this is exactly the thing we liked about the location! In summary, I think t was the roomiest, best value property I have ever stayed in and would definitely stay again if I were in the area. I hope that the slug problem can be dealt with safely.

Lovely cottage in an idyllic location, well equipped and lovely secure garden for the dog.downside was the dog next door barking every time someone went in the garden, so spoilt our holiday somewhat as the weather was amazing but we felt we couldn’t sit in the garden to enjoy it!It was good to have a toilet upstairs, but it would have been even better if access was improved ie if the door opened the other way and/or had an automatics light linked to the door (like the pantry door in the kitchen). It felt quite dangerous to access it from the curve at the top of the lovely old stone stairs! The late check in (5pm) was very late compared to other cottages we have visited and we were disappointed to not even have a pint of milk to make a cuppa when we arrived - good job we took some gin with us!
