This is a perfect centre from which to set out on outdoor pursuits; from fishing for trout on the peaceful waters of Clatworthy Reservoir or Wimbleball Lake, horse-riding at a number of stables in the area or simply taking a long walk through the idyllic countryside on well-signed paths. There are several excellent independent shops in Wiveliscombe including an award-winning butcher, antique shops, a gunsmith and the well known Court House, a striking three-storey independent shop that attracts visitors from far afield. The village is half an hour's drive from North Somerset's beaches, such as Blue Anchor Bay and, as the gateway to the Brendon Hills and Exmoor, an ideal base for walking and other pursuits in one of Britain's loveliest National Parks.
