Hillside Cottage in Somerset is highly praised for its cleanliness, comfortable furnishings, and well-equipped facilities. Guests appreciate the property's peaceful location, secure garden, and proximity to local attractions and walks. The cottage's charm and the thoughtfulness of the owners, including a welcome pack, contribute to a homely feel. While there are minor concerns about seating comfort and a neighbour's dog, the overall sentiment is overwhelmingly positive, with many guests eager to return.
The cottage is consistently described as spotlessly clean, with many guests highlighting the cleanliness as a standout feature. One review mentioned the need for a deep clean, but this appears to be an isolated opinion.
The location is frequently praised for its tranquillity and proximity to the Quantocks and local attractions. Some guests noted the fast traffic near the driveway and the distance from the coast, but overall, the location is seen as brilliant and well-situated.
Comfort is generally well-regarded, with positive comments about the beds and the cosy atmosphere. However, some guests found the seating and mattresses less comfortable, suggesting room for improvement.
Facilities are well-received, with the cottage being described as well-equipped and having everything needed. There were minor issues with a dishwasher and suggestions for a clothesline, but these do not detract significantly from the overall positive feedback.
While guests have mentioned a welcome pack and the provision of local information, there is not enough consistent detail about gifts or additional thoughtful touches to accurately score this category. Therefore, the score is set to null.
A semi-detached, character cottage in the pretty Somerset village of Spaxton, to the west of Bridgwater. This attractive Spaxton cottage dates back to the early 1800s and was originally part of a farmhouse, which was converted into four cottages. It has two bedrooms and provides cosy accommodation within a peaceful village setting, with far-reaching views of the surrounding countryside. The sitting room of this Somerset cottage has exposed beams over the doors and an inglenook fireplace with a woodburner, ideal for a cosy evening after some walking in the Quantock Hills. The fitted kitchen of this Spaxton cottage has a dining area and a door leading to a pantile roofed patio and sunny enclosed garden, which is a peaceful spot to relax.
There are plenty of country walks from this Somerset cottage and Spaxton has some interesting restored almshouses, a pretty historic church, a welcoming traditional Somerset pub and a well-stocked community shop selling quality local produce, plus there is no street lighting in the village, which means on clear nights you can see outstanding views of the night sky. With the WWT Steart Marshes right on the doorstep and four RSPB reserves within easy driving distance; Greylake, Swell Wood, Ham Wall and West Sedgemoor, this wonderful cottage is perfect for wildlife lovers. Nearby there is the whole of the Quantock Hills to explore either on foot, on horseback or on bike and this Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty offers some excellent landscapes and fine views.
Exmoor and the North Somerset coast are just half an hour's drive from this Spaxton cottage where there are beach resorts, fishing villages, stunning moorland and National Trust coastal walks. However, the Jurassic fossil beach of Kilve is 8 miles away, and WWT Steart is 7 miles, both reached in around 20 minutes. This peaceful retreat provides a base for a memorable family holiday.
The village of Spaxton is quiet and rural and is situated six miles west of Bridgwater, set within the foothills of the Quantock Hills, in an Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty.

It has everything you need for a great holiday. From every bed side having a reading lamp to enough dishes and glasses for a whole day, it's astonishing how many holiday lets don't have these simple things. A larger coffee table or two matching small ones that you could play board games on is the only improvement I can think of.The garden is a great place to sit in the afternoon sun. The Community Store is a very well stocked shop. Great cottage, great location.

Lovely size garden for the pooches. Nice to have a washing machine, but would have been nice to dry stuff on a rotary line or ordinary line, was a bit difficult to get everything on 2 clothes horses for 3 of us, but nothing we couldn't sort. Kitchen workspace was bit small, but being on holiday you compensate. Not one for wasting money on takeaways and eating out, too expensive.Nice area and easily accessible for getting to places. Bit disappointed in the village shop, OK for the odd bits and bobs, but in Bridgewater is an Aldi and Morrisons, not too far to drive. Would recommend and go again.

Beautiful garden with lovely cool porch to eat breakfast. (Very hot when we visited!) Extremely well equipped with excellent dishwasher and oven. Only grouse:electric shower. Quite difficult to get wet in it! But this is one of the best cottages weâve rented and is thoroughly recommended.
