About this property

A perfect opportunity for the extended family to spend quality time together away from hustle and bustle of every day life. Milestones is a beautiful, spacious, light and airy home with it’s own unique character. Occupying a private and discrete location at the foot of the Mendip hills in the small country village of Westbury sub Mendip, Somerset. Boasting a glorious view across the Somerset levels and views of Glastonbury Tor, this grand property is ideal for drivable visits to local beaches, with magnificent views along the way, with the nearest beaches being Weston Super Mare and Brean Sands. There are four bedrooms within the property equipped to sleep eight people - the master bedroom has an en-suite. The spacious living room has large windows offering a stunning panoramic view of the hills and surrounding countryside. It is easily large enough to incorporate the space needed for the larger family, providing a spacious place to play games together at the end of each day. The surrounding areas provide a chance to explore caves and visit places of famous historical interest. Milestones is the perfect ‘wind down’ retreat to return to after a busy day of exploring. Offering an equipped and large kitchen area to prepare the ‘feet up’ family meal, to be enjoyed in the spacious dining room, that overlooks the private, established rear garden. There is also a Study room equipped with a desk and work area, for private space, or for those who may need to sneak in a little secret holiday work time. It is perfect for all ages as a base to explore this wonderful county; however being situated on the slopes of the Mendip hills it is on a moderate incline with a tiered mature garden and as such there are steps and the rear garden has three levels. There is also a cot provided for a little one. The garden is beautifully steeped, curved and sectioned to afford the chance of a private moment for reading and relaxation, whilst soaking up the beautiful Somerset atmosphere of peace and tranquility. The local area has everything you need for a short or long stay. A quaint, community run post office offers fresh produce, wines and general goods. There is a local village pub which serves food with perfect hospitality. Look out for entertainment that is also provided there on occasions. On the doorstep there are many walking opportunities, immerse yourself deep into the heart of the countryside and marvel over spectacular views. Wookey hole is a short distance away, offering entertainment for children and the opportunity to travel deep into excavated caves and discover the habitat of pre-historic man! The historic landmark, Cheddar Gorge, is just a couple of villages away, sample cave aged Cheddar cheese that is made locally or just marvel at the beauty of the enormous chiseled rock faces. Some climbing opportunity is available locally too and plenty of walks over a wide range of routes to suit all abilities from hike to easy stroll, plenty for all to have a glorious day out. Visit the famous, mystical Glastonbury Tor, which can be seen from Milestones, busy with foot climbers at all times of the day it offers the very best views across the whole region. Whilst in Glastonbury you could also take a tour of the ruins of the famous Abbey, another site linked to the legendary King Arthur. A short distance from Glastonbury is the town of Street and the opportunity to browse the wide range of shops at Clarkes Village where you can pick up a bargain. The Somerset levels are a habitat for a wide range of wildlife, particularly rare birds and a more common species, the Starling can be seen performing at certain times of the year their breath-taking murmuration creating fabulous patterns and shapes as they flock together above the marshes.

Slightly further afield are Bristol and Bath, Milestones affords a comfortable day out to these locations. Bath offers the opportunity to see genuine Roman Spa’s and a chance to learn about Roman early settlers or to just gaze at the beautiful, affluent architecture that fills this Royal City. Bristol offers a variety of restaurants, historic docks and a not to be missed opportunity to see the SS Great Britain and Brunel’s famous suspension bridge.

The Somerset village of Westbury-sub-Mendip can be found halfway between both famous tourist attractions Cheddar Gorge and the cathedral city of Wells, both must-sees while in the local area. Surrounded by the Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty, its the perfect place to take in amazing scenery via foothpaths and walking routes. Standard of cleanliness and decoration were excellent. Good assortment of kitchenware, although for a property sleeping 8 a larger cafeteria would have been useful. A clothes airer would be helpful to save using the tumble dryer. We found the proximity of the road was not an issue and the views over the Somerset levels outstanding.

Upstairs are four double bedrooms, one with en-suite and further large bathroom. Downstairs is a huge lounge, separate dining room, separate kitchen with a 1970's style hatch through to the dining room. It has a mature terraced garden at the rear and large front garden A really lovely property, very clean and beautifully decorated and with WiFi. Really good for a base to explore the surrounding area. We really enjoyed our stay with the family. A couple of minor improvements to consider. 1. Need a towel rail/ring near the sink in the en-suite? 2. Possibly add a handrail in the shower to help those of a certain age with balance. 3. Add a mirror in the main bedroom for styling hair after washing as hair dryer cannot be used in en-suite. 4. Teenager would have liked access to Netflix etc! He suggests a Firestick. 5. Tin opener was not working effectively. Look to replace?
