Easily explored on foot, Wells offers a delightful mix of independent boutiques, cosy cafes, traditional pubs, excellent restaurants, and an artisan deli, along with its twice-weekly markets. Don’t miss the awe-inspiring cathedral and the historic Bishop’s Palace. Beyond the city, visit Glastonbury (6 miles), famous for its iconic Tor and Abbey Ruins, or Bruton (12 miles) with its vibrant mix of shops and dining spots. For natural wonders, head to the caves of Wookey Hole (2 miles) or take in the dramatic landscapes of Cheddar Gorge (10 miles). Other highlights within easy reach include the historic city of Bath (20 miles) and Clarks Village (7.5 miles) for outlet shopping. To the north of Wells lie the Mendip Hills, a National Landscape where scenic footpaths wind through rolling countryside, including the West Mendip Way and the Monarch’s Way.
