Tucked away in the heart of the village of Uphill, on Somerset’s stunning north coast, Uphill Manor offers a unique place to unwind. This beautifully restored Grade II* Gothic castle combines timeless character, spacious rooms and extensive private grounds with modern comforts, creating a memorable escape for families, groups, special celebrations and business stays. Described variously as “the country house in town” and “one of the most unusual urban properties in the country”, Uphill Manor enjoys a wonderfully private setting while remaining within easy reach of the village and nearby Weston-super-Mare. The beach and golf course are around a five-minute walk away, while the centre of Weston-super-Mare can be reached in approximately 20 minutes on foot.

Step inside to discover four inviting reception rooms, offering plenty of space to gather together or enjoy a quiet moment with a coffee, a glass of wine or a good book. On the ground floor, the wood-panelled dining room can seat up to 18 guests comfortably, making it ideal for shared meals and special occasions. The Manor also features a study with a writing desk, chair, television and comfortable seating, along with a very well-stocked library. The magnificent billiards room houses a full-sized table, while three impressive hallways showcase the property’s remarkable Gothic architecture, including carved woodwork and intricate stencilling. Behind the scenes, the large, well-equipped main kitchen includes a Rangemaster cooker and dishwasher, while the utility area provides a washing machine and tumble dryer.

A second, smaller kitchen adjoining the dining room is also equipped with a dishwasher, American-style fridge freezer, Nespresso coffee machine, toaster and kettle. Upstairs, Uphill Manor offers five beautifully appointed bedrooms, each furnished with a king-size zip-and-link bed and benefiting from its own private en-suite bathroom. Two of the en-suites feature walk-in showers, while the remaining three have showers over the bath, providing flexibility for a range of guests. All five beds can be configured as twins when requested in advance. Bedroom One also benefits from a spacious private lounge area and includes a king-size sofa bed, which can be made available on request for an additional charge.

A conveniently equipped first-floor kitchenette provides a kettle, Nespresso coffee machine, fridge and sink, allowing guests to prepare hot drinks and store chilled refreshments without needing to return to the main kitchen. The first floor is also home to a dedicated games room, complete with a 60-inch television with Netflix, comfortable lounge furniture and a wide selection of games and toys suitable for guests of all ages. Outside, Uphill Manor sits within 18 acres of private grounds, comprising manicured lawns, mature trees, ancient woodland and open fields where several ponies live. Guests can stroll through the grounds, relax beneath the trees or enjoy the generous space surrounding the house.

The grounds also include a Victorian walled garden, which can be viewed by request and is home to chickens and ducks. At the bottom of the garden, several beehives produce delicious honey. At the front of the house, overlooking the manicured lawn and woodland, is a large open patio adjoining the dining room, together with a covered and furnished seating area. A barbecue, pizza oven and firepit are provided, allowing guests to make the most of outdoor living throughout their stay. Guests wishing to enjoy a hot tub can arrange one through the owners’ trusted contact, who will deliver it to the Manor, set it up and prepare it for use (additional cost).

The garden room contains equipment for a variety of games and outdoor activities, including croquet, badminton, outdoor table tennis, volleyball, darts and boules. Guests can also enjoy the full-sized snooker table indoors or take a leisurely walk around the extensive grounds. There is ample private parking for numerous cars, positioned away from the road. An electric vehicle charging point is also available by prior arrangement, with payment requested before departure. Beyond the grounds, Uphill’s long sandy beach is just a five-minute walk away across the golf course and sand dunes, while miles of surrounding countryside provide plenty of opportunities for walking and exploration.

Guests can even join the Mendip Way directly from Uphill Manor. Golf enthusiasts are particularly well catered for, with Weston Golf Links only minutes away and a number of other excellent courses within easy reach. The village of Uphill offers a local shop, two pubs, a restaurant and a café. Nearby Weston-super-Mare provides an array of traditional seaside attractions, including the Grand Pier, Weston Museum and its sandy beaches. The surrounding area is also ideally placed for exploring the natural beauty and attractions of Somerset, including the Mendip Hills, Cheddar Gorge, Wookey Hole Caves, Burnham-on-Sea and Brean Theme Park. Located just under three hours from London, the Manor also provides a convenient base for discovering some of England’s most loved regions.

Guests can spend their days visiting Bristol, Bath and Wells or enjoying trips to the Cotswolds, Wales, Devon, Cornwall and the Jurassic Coast before returning to the peace and privacy of Uphill Manor. The owners, Tina and Craig, live in a separate wing of the property, formerly the servants’ quarters, and have their own private entrance. They remain readily contactable should guests require any assistance during their stay. The traditional seaside town of Weston-super-Mare offers awarding-winning sandy beaches, donkey rides, water sports, restaurants and shops as well as the Playhouse, Winter Gardens and the Grand Pier offering a year-round programme of shows, musicals and fairs. Burnham and Berrow Championship Golf Course is also close by. Sand Bay, just 2 miles away offers an unspoilt beach, plus Sand Point and Middle Hope, owned by the National Trust, with car parks and cafes nearby. The famous Cheddar Caves and Gorge, with amazing cliff top walks, is only a short drive away, as are historic Wells, England's smallest city, and Glastonbury Tor, with its connections to King Arthur. Further afield you can enjoy Dunster Castle and the breathtaking coastline, cliffs, sheltered bays, and of course the ponies of the beautiful Exmoor National Park. A great holiday destination for couples or families, the very active, or those simply wishing to enjoy the peaceful surroundings.

The accommodation is arranged over four levels.

On the first floor you will also find our Games Room, which contains a 60” television with Netflix, comfortable lounge furniture, many games and toys for all ages.

A welcome hamper is included and the kitchen comes stocked with the basics you will need for every day cooking.
