I loved it. The only thing the sheets smelled of was damp. But it was a lovely cottage

Greeted by our friendly host which was lovely, the cottage itself is a lot smaller than the photos appear to show, we had a welcome basket, consisting of 4 different can’s of ciders some cheddars and a small block of local cheese, which was a nice thought, we left the ciders there but the cheese and the cheddars hit the spot, an unusual welcome basket compared to some I have had, but still a thoughtful touch. The cottage itself had tea towels and some washing up liquid and washing up cloth and an extra bin bag again thoughtful touches. The living area was dysfunctional sadly as there were four of us, a 2 seater sofa where one recliner didn’t work a single sofa chair and a tub seat, meaning one of you always ended up seating in an uncomfortable chair for the evening, the furniture had seen better days quite disappointing really. The kitchen was well equipped, although the knives could do with a sharpen. There is also not really that much space to prepare stuff in the kitchen as not a lot of worktop space that isn’t occupied by something, it’s just against one wall in the living room/diner area, so it is a pretty condensed area. The downstairs bedroom and upstairs bedrooms and a good size although the upstairs bedroom affords you on privacy, no door at the top of the stairs, and it has a banister in the bedroom which is open a bit, hidden in one sense from the lounge but allows light and sound up. The beds had mattress protectors on as one would expect but they were one which made crinkly noises when you moved so I ended up putting another blanket over the top of the mattress protectors and remaking the bed also because I found the bed uncomfortable but that’s just a personal thing as you are use to your own bed. The downstairs bathroom had a walk in shower which was lovely, although when you open the door you have to do so carefully as it opens straight on to the toilet and the door does not open fully you have to side step into the bathroom and then close the door before you can go to the toilet. It meant you often ended up banging the door on the toilet. The upstairs bathroom has a shower also which again was lovely and the heated towel rail was fab. The hot tub was great, although I don’t think there was any maintained done on it throughout our stay which is unusual, as everyplace we have every stayed in has done daily maintained on the hot tub. It was lovely and hot at 40 degrees. And we went in it twice a day. I don’t think there was maintained done on it as the filter you can see in the hot tub under the light was ‘furry’ after a couple of days and it was never cleaned by our host. The garden, patio furniture and retractable washing line were all used and were well maintained, it has a clock hanging in the garden, then needed new batteries which would have been nice to tell the correct tell, when lazing in the hot tub. The location is lovely, and although we did have a neighbour the adjoining cottage we didn’t hear any noise through the walls or anything, it felt private. The washing machine was a nice little touch and it felt great to go home with no washing at the end of the week and we were lucky with the weather that we were able to hang it out with the pegs supplied in the home and it dried. The wood burner was lovely too and a basket of logs and some kindling to get you started was also a nice gesture, it warms the place up pretty quick! We had a pleasant enough time we were out every day doing touristy things, there is a massive folder in the cottage, that said, there is a lot of out of date information in that folder so perhaps the hosts should look to remove the out of date stuff in there. But again it is a nice touch and there is plenty of stuff to do in the surrounding area. Overall for the price I paid, I wouldn’t return in honesty, as I feel it is overpriced and the accommodation is small and lacked in a couple of areas as mentioned.

We had a fantastic week with our dog at this beautiful cottage. It had everything we needed and was a perfect base to go on our walks with the dog. We came back to a lovely hot tub . The cottage was clean, cosy and Tom and Michelle were the perfect hosts.
