About this property

The Deer is a delightful, detached barn conversion set in the grounds of the owner's home, close to the ancient village of Blakeney resting on the south-east edge of the brilliant Forest of Dean. This is a lovely cottage, nestled in an elevated position, overlooking an ancient cider orchard, and offering light and bright accommodation, as well as a hot tub. This is a perfect romantic retreat from which to explore this beautiful corner of the country. The Deer has an open-plan living area with whitewashed, wooden floorboards, a contemporary, well-equipped kitchen with a breakfast bar and a plush leather sofa in the sitting area where you’ll also find a large LED, HD TV to relax in front of after a busy day exploring the area. A sleek wet room is also located on the ground-floor. Climb the wrought iron spiral staircase to the first-floor bedroom that contains a sumptuous double bed, TV, DAB bedside clock radio with iPod dock, along with incredible views. To the front of the cottage is an enclosed decked area with furniture, ideal for a refreshing drink, especially with the wine cooler to hand, or for added indulgence, take a dip in the bubbling hot tub in the evening as the starry night begins to appear overhead. Walks to the Forest of Dean can be embarked on right from your front doorstep, or why not take a stroll to the village of Blakeney to delight with a drink in the village pub, or sample a treat of local fish and chips? A wonderful cottage for a memorable break at any time of year, make The Deer your next base in Gloucestershire. Note: This property can be booked with Ref. 1143159, together sleeping up to four guests.

The ancient village of Blakeney lies on the southeast edge of the Royal Forest of Dean and was once a site of a Roman Villa dating back to 75AD. Equidistant to Gloucester and Monmouth, the village boasts many 16th and 17th century buildings, with a charming 16th century coaching inn, and also offers a good selection of amenities including a fish and chip shop, village store and Post Office, as well as numerous walks and cycle routes. The magnificent Royal Forest of Dean, England's largest oak forest and an Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty, boasts numerous trails that can be explored on foot, by bike or horseback. Caving, abseiling and a high wire rope course can be enjoyed by the more adventurous, whilst fishing, golf, kayaking and canoeing are other popular activities available in this unspoilt area. The eerie caverns and ancient caves of Clearwell are close by, as are the Gloucestershire Way and Offa's Dyke Path for wonderful walks. Close by, Symonds Yat boasts natural scenery and straddles the beautiful River Wye with its magnificent limestone rock, popular with climbers, and well known for its viewpoint. Visit the historic town of Monmouth, which offers a fusion of elegant Georgian mansions and Victorian courtyards, or the lovely town of Ross-on-Wye with its timbered Tudor houses and delightful riverside walks, both home to excellent shops, pubs and restaurants. The unspoilt Malvern Hills, Brecon Beacon National Park and Black Mountains, as well as lovely Cotswold towns and villages are just a little further afield.
