The Dorset village of Weston sits atop the Isle of Portland. Located next to Easton and Southwell, it is an important part of daily life on Portland Island. It's a special place to stay now that it's been designated a conservation area and a site of particular architectural and historical interest. The west cliffs of Portland are known for their abundance of owls, you can also ring the famous bell of St George's Church, which is just a short walk away. The Portland stone used to carve the monuments and gravestones in the cemetery is of the highest quality, St Paul's Cathedral was also built using this material. Many of the local churches and buildings have been constructed using the same methods, and each one is unique. The National Sailing Academy is located in the harbour of Portland, making it an ideal location for water sport enthusiasts to visit. With its enormous stone bank beach, Chesil beach protects the road to Portland and Portland Harbor from prevailing tides.
