About this property

This delightful self-catering holiday home is the perfect place to stay in the centre of historic Sherborne, with all amenities within easy walking distance. The Courtyard, a charming honeyed-stone courtyard house, is nestled in the beautiful town of Sherborne, with its famous Medieval Abbey, a plethora of boutique shops, renowned schools, historic houses and fabulous eateries. The Courtyard sits in a private, gated complex and provides a convenient haven within two attractive courtyards featuring an open water feature and peaceful gardens. The front door opens to a welcoming hallway, with attractive stone flooring and hanging space for outdoor clothing. It offers a downstairs cloakroom and access to a spacious and fully-equipped cottage kitchen, with convenient backdoor access to the parking area. Two doors lead to the dual aspect living room with comfortable seating, a large flat-screen TV, fireplace with living flame gas fire, dining table and chairs, and dresser unit. Take a seat at the table ideally situated in the bay window, overlooking an attractive quiet courtyard garden, to enjoy a relaxing meal. Upstairs on the first floor there are two chic double bedrooms, both styled with gorgeous wallpaper and plenty of storage to house all your belongings; the rear bedroom benefits from a bright and airy ensuite shower room. The family bathroom, also on this level, is spacious with a full-sized bathtub and over-bath shower. From the window on the second floor there is a good view across the Sherborne rooftops to the Abbey tower, which is lit up at night-time, and during the daytime the bells can be heard within the house. Sherborne is one of the most beautiful towns in England, with medieval buildings, its famous abbey and castles. It is a busy market town with independent shops selling handcrafted goods and a variety of restaurants and cafés. Sherborne has become well-known for art and antique shops and has twice-weekly Pannier Markets and monthly Artisan and Farmer’s Markets just minutes from the property. The very popular Digby Tap freehouse is a stone’s throw from the property, offering local ‘session ales’ and a very rich history (Please note, some noise can carry to the back of the house until closing at 11pm). Enjoy an early morning stroll through the well-kept landscape of Pageant Gardens, continuing through the town towards the eery ruins of the 12th century Sherborne Old Castle; also discover the more recent and imposing 16th century Sherborne Castle that sits proudly on Sherborne Lake. Admire the breath-taking stained-glass windows of Sherborne Abbey before learning of the town’s rich history on a blue badge tour or at the local museum. Hop on the train for a day in Yeovil where you will find shops, a cinema and the scenic Ninesprings Country Park. The Courtyard is an ideal place to stay to explore this beautiful town on foot or to venture out into Dorset with its many sights such as the Cerne Abbas Giant, an ancient chalk figure sculpted in the hillside and the iconic Gold Hill from the Hovis advert in nearby Shaftesbury. Within an easy drive are historical houses such as Kingston Lacey house and gardens and the stunning house and gardens at Stourhead (both National Trust). Take a day trip to the Jurassic Coast and visit the popular towns of Dorchester, Corfe Castle, Lulworth Cove and Lyme Regis, or head over the county border to Somerset which has a Clarks Village Outlet, Glastonbury Tor and Cheddar Gorge and Caves. You will certainly never be short of activities during your stay at The Courtyard. Discover the very best that Dorset has to offer with a stay at The Courtyard. It provides an ideal base for fossil-hunting on the coast, cosying up in a local pub, enjoying a long country walk and a relaxing break in the spectacular county of Dorset
