About this property

Cobb Cottage is a Victorian end of terrace cottage, nestled in a quiet country lane, just a stone’s throw away from the centre of the pretty village of Charlton Horethorne. Built by the Sherborne Castle Estate for its workers in 1860, this Grade II listed cottage offers the perfect peaceful spot for a romantic getaway, a practical base for hiking or cycling around South Somerset and North Dorset, or the perfect base for a family of three looking to explore and unwind, with easy access to the Cranborne Chase and Blackdown Hills Areas of Outstanding Beauty. A convenient off-road parking space greets you on the drive, just a few short steps from the charming studded front door, inviting you into the cosy sitting room, with its impressive flagstone floors; unwind on the ample seating and throw a log onto the toasty open fire. The smart TV offers Netflix and has a Google Chromecast installed, so you can stream video or music from apps you already subscribe to, such as Amazon Prime or Spotify. Alexa is on hand, offering Amazon Music with a simple command. A range of novels awaits on the windowsill should the mood take you, along with Explorer maps of the local area, plus walking and cycling guides. A quick rummage in the cupboard will reward you with some board games and playing cards.

Progress through to the pleasant kitchen where all the essentials you need to create delicious meals await you, including an electric oven and hob, a handy microwave and a coffee machine.

If you arrive at Cobb Cottage on a Friday, you'll find a carton of milk and a pack of butter in the fridge, both from local dairies, as well as a small loaf of bread and a delicious cake, both from local bakeries, to tide you over until you have a chance to visit the amazing village shop.

Whatever day of the week you arrive, you'll find a bottle of chilled white wine awaiting you, as well as a pack of ground coffee for use in the coffee machine, plus instant coffee and a variety of tea bags.

Basics such as salt and pepper and common herbs and spices are kept stocked for you in the cupboards, along with staples such as olive oil, sugar and washing up liquid.

As the day comes to an end, you will discover a cosy ground-floor single room with an en-suite shower room in an external building called The Washhouse, just two steps from the back door of the cottage and very convenient for those with limited mobility or an older child. Make your way up the quaint staircase to find a tastefully furnished king-size room with a window that showcases beautiful views over the hills and fields around the property. There is ample space to store your clothes and a hair dryer can be found in one of drawers of the handy dressing table. The family bathroom is also located on this floor, with a fabulous shower over the bath, making it a superb spot to soak up and relax after a day of hiking (hand soap and toilet paper are provided). Behind the property you will find a beautifully landscaped rear garden; the path to the garden is shared with the other residents of the terrace, but the garden itself is solely for use of guests at Cobb Cottage and is superbly private and secluded, with views over the hills beyond. Enjoy a picnic on the lawn by the idyllic little pond, with a glass of wine or a book in hand. Sun loungers are available, as well as garden tables and chairs and a charcoal fired barbecue. Charlton Horethorne is a fantastic location, with a superb award-winning village shop, open 7 days a week, and The Kings Arms gastro-pub, which attracts visitors from far and wide, so if you don't feel like cooking you can enjoy delicious food and drinks at the pub before embarking on one of many walking trails that run close to the village. Both the village shop and the Kings Arms pub are less than 2 minutes’ walk from the cottage. Within a 20 minute drive you can reach the National Trust owned Stourhead House and Gardens, a Palladian house and world-famous landscape garden, boasting rare and exotic trees, providing a day of fresh air and discovery. Pay a visit to the charming market town of Sherborne and view the Elizabethan Abbey and not just one but two castles, or receive an informative tour of the unique Sherborne Steam and Waterwheel Centre. Travel north to Wincanton and watch the horse races at the close-by racecourse or enjoy a spot of golf at the local club, before venturing further afield to the lavish manor and wildlife park at Longleat. Get back to nature at Cranborne Chase AONB and cycle the trail through the Chalke and Nadder Valleys, spot the wildlife in Prescombe Down National Nature Reserve, or hike along the River Crane to the picturesque village of Cranborne. For a day out with a difference, be sure to visit the large town of Yeovil with its popular Montacute House and Country Park. For more outdoors activities, travel to the Blackdown Hills AONB with its enchanting Adcombe Wood and pretty Bishopswood Meadows. Take yourself further afield and explore the Jurassic coast, accessible within an hour’s drive, where you can see some beautiful beaches, go fossil hunting and visit picturesque seaside resorts such as Lyme Regis. Enjoy a memorable holiday in Somerset with your loved ones at Cobb Cottage.

The tranquil village of Charltone Horethorne is a walkers' paradise, boasting ample trails that weave through the village and easy access to the Blackdown Hills and Cranborne Chase Areas of Outstanding Natural Beauty.
