Guests say

Marles Farmhouse in Dorset receives high praise for its well-equipped amenities, spacious and comfortable accommodation, and peaceful rural setting. Guests appreciate the welcoming hosts and the property's suitability for multi-generational family gatherings. The gardens and proximity to beaches and local attractions add to the positive experience, with many expressing a desire to return.

Guests consistently note the property's cleanliness, with remarks on its spotless condition upon arrival. One mention of an oven needing a better clean slightly impacts the otherwise impeccable feedback.

The location is celebrated for its tranquillity and proximity to beaches and points of interest. The rural setting is a highlight, though one guest noted the single track road access could be a consideration for some drivers.

The farmhouse is repeatedly described as roomy and comfortable, with ample space for guests of all ages. A few comments suggest the beds could be softer, indicating a slight room for improvement in this area.

Facilities are generally regarded as excellent, with a well-equipped kitchen and ample bathrooms. Suggestions for additional entertainment options and a minor issue with a fridge indicate there is some room for enhancement.

While many reviews commend the hosts' welcoming nature and the well-thought-out amenities, there is no specific mention of gifts. Therefore, it is not possible to assess the thoughtfulness based on the provision of gifts, and the score is set to null.

About this property

Tucked between the picturesque Dorset villages of Salwayash and Waytown, and perched on the edge of the stunning Marshwood Vale—part of the Dorset National Landscape -Marles Farmhouse offers the perfect mix of rustic charm and modern comfort. This detached, stone-built gem is surrounded by rolling green fields and approached via peaceful, wooded lanes; secluded and tranquil, with no nearby neighbours (the friendly owner lives discreetly on-site in a converted dairy), it's a true countryside retreat.

Lovingly refurbished in 2015 and thoughtfully updated since, the farmhouse blends original 19th-century features - thick stone walls, exposed beams, and a characterful fireplace - with eco-conscious modern upgrades with solid wall insulation, solar panels with battery storage, biomass heating, EV charging, and water heating systems - all designed to tread lightly on the planet.

Inside, the heart of the home is a huge, stylish kitchen with gleaming granite surfaces, a range cooker, and a spacious dining area perfect for gathering everyone together. After dinner, kick back in front of the cosy wood-burning stove in the sitting room, or head to the family/games room, complete with table football, TV/DVD/Blu-ray, and a Bluetooth-connected sound system - if you feel like a singalong, there’s even a piano for musical evenings.

The layout is ideal for all generations, with a twin bedroom and a shower room on the ground floor, perfect for guests with limited mobility. Two staircases lead to five more bedrooms upstairs - all with peaceful views of the garden and fields. There are two king-size rooms with en-suite showers, two flexible twins (which can convert to doubles) and a room with bunk beds - two further bathrooms round out the upper floor.

Step outside to a sunny rear terrace with picnic benches and a BBQ - ideal for lazy lunches or evening drinks. In the front the enclosed cottage garden overlooks sheep-dotted fields and a chicken coop (don’t worry—no cockerel!), offering a serene setting for morning coffee or wildlife watching - you might spot deer, foxes, owls, or bats. Kids will love the climbing frame, swings, and open-fronted garage with a table tennis setup.

Scenic, spacious, and wonderfully private, Marles Farmhouse is a fantastic base for exploring the very best of Dorset; from countryside walks straight from the front door to beach days at West Bay or Charmouth, and fossil-hunting along the Jurassic Coast to watersports in Weymouth.

The attractive market town of Bridport grew up around the River Brit, and was shaped by its extensive history of rope and net making. The long, wide streets and alleyways between the houses were once where the flax strands were twisted into rope, while today those streets are filled with an interesting variety of shops, restaurants and inns.

Great attention to detail by the owner. Great showers and beds , beautiful kitchen and utility room with a very useful ice machine . Fresh eggs from chickens and Seb always on hand if we had any questions . Strongly advise to arrive in daylight !

The house had everything we needed and more. There was plenty of room for nine people and a dog, with enough bathrooms and sitting areas. We found the parking area perfect and the garden was fully enclosed and safe for our dog. A real highlight was the ten minute walk to the local pub where the landlord made us especially welcome, so we felt right at home. Plenty of things to do, Lyme Regis, Durdle Door, the beaches and pretty towns all within an acceptable drive.
