About this property

Just a short walk from the beach, is this charming period cottage, Windwhistle. Thanks to its superb location and well-presented accommodation, this property is the perfect destination for a family or couples on holiday together. The cottage is authentically rustic with beautiful features throughout and the welcoming open-plan dining and sitting room is simply delightful. You can imagine curling up on the sofa in front of the feature fire here and chilling out or relaxing in the dining area and enjoying some delicious home-cooked food. The kitchen is compact but has everything you need to prepare wonderful dishes for the whole family. The addition of a small sunroom gives an extra space for relaxing in and gives guests the opportunity to get away from the hustle and bustle of the main house while enjoying views over the gardens. Talking of the gardens it is a real treat to be so central and yet have such fantastic outside space. The enclosed gardens are perfect for the children to have room to run around whilst the adults can enjoy a drink or a bite to eat alfresco knowing the children are safe and having fun. Everyone is a winner! When nighttime calls take your pick from the well-appointed double bedroom or the stylish twin bedroom, both of which provide a real sanctuary after a hard day of holidaying. The beauty of staying at Windwhistle is its central location. You are in walking distance of the infamous Cobb Causeway which overlooks the ancient harbour and is a hub of activity. The town itself is well worth a browse with its shops, boutiques, cafes and restaurants and also has its own museum and aquarium. If you’re up for a day out and a bit of a drive with some beautiful scenery along the way then check out Tunnel Tree Top high ropes and zip wire at Charmouth, Lambert’s Castle and Coney’s Castle and towns such as Bridport, Abbotsbury and Beaminster which are well worth a visit. Windwhistle is the perfect base to explore the wonders of Dorset.

The delightful seaside town of Lyme Regis has much to offer its visitors, boasting a maze of narrow streets filled with craft and antique shops, galleries and cafes. Take a stroll along the world-famous Cobb causeway overlooking the ancient harbour, where fishing trips can be enjoyed, or try your hand at fossil hunting in the area. The scenic coastal path offers excellent walking opportunities and spectacular views of the stunning Jurassic coast, whilst the gently shelving sands and sparkling waters of Lyme Bay provide the perfect place in which to relax and unwind. A holiday destination to savour!

This is the second time we have stayed at Windwhistle, and we love it. The sea view from the twin room is lovely and you can watch the sunrise every morning from there. The cottage has all the facilities you need, and was warm , cosy and very clean. Our dog settled in really quickly and it was lovely to have a secure little garden for him to stretch his legs. I am sure we will be returning.

Useful porch to leave wet coats, muddy shoes and wipe down the dog. The information folder in the property could be updated, with clear emergency contact details added. Our stay was let down by zero cleaning prior to our visit - very dirty bathrooms and no double bed made up. Arriving after 4pm on Friday didn't leave us time to find or get help, meaning I had to clean. Sykes were helpful on WhatsApp the next day, and followed up with a phone call, contacting the owner who compensated us. We would still recommend the cottage as long as the cleaning was in place!

The kitchen to be fair is quite challenging but is fully equipped. The twin bedded room has the fantastic view of the Cobb and gets the sunrise in the morning whereas the master bedroom has neither. Cosy and welcoming in a great location and very easy to feel at home in. We would return.
