About this property

Located in the centre of the coastal town of Lyme Regis, The Old Garage is an intriguing, two bedroom apartment offering wonderful views of the coastline and sea from the lounge and garden. Formerly a historic garage for a large house and housing one of Lyme Regis' first motor cars, the property's original character has been preserved. The modern and contemporary accommodation has everything desired for a wonderful seaside holiday. Arranged on one level, the property has been refurbished and furnished to a very high standard. The lounge is a great space with comfortable seating where you can sit back in front of the Smart TV or take in the far-reaching coastal views. A fantastic feature of the apartment is the imposing, 4 metre (13 foot) sliding doors which close into the cavity, leaving the lounge opening completely onto the decked garden. The kitchen is bright, well equipped and a great social space with dining table within the centre of the home. The large decked garden area, which takes advantage of the views, is partially covered, ideal for dining 'alfresco'. Sleeping up to four guests, the property has two bedrooms – a kingsize bedroom with ensuite shower room, overlooking the garden and a twin bedroom. The family bathroom has a bath with shower over. Enjoying garage parking for one car, this is a perfect property for couples or small families looking for an excellent holiday home on this wonderful part of the World Heritage coastline. Lyme Regis town centre can be reached within minutes with an array of independent shops, eateries and attractions. The family friendly beach is the perfect spot for a swim or enjoying some of the water sports on offer, with boat trips available from the famous Cobb harbour. The towns museums showcase the areas association with fossil hunting or why not try to spot your own ammonite on the beaches. The South West Coastal Footpath offers visitors a scenic way to enjoy the coast and takes in sites including Golden Cap as well as the seaside villages of Charmouth, Branscombe and Beer. Other family days out include the donkey sanctuary near Sidmouth or hop upon the tram at Seaton for a ride to Colyton travelling alongside the River Axe estuary through two nature reserves and giving an unrivalled view of the abundant wading bird life. With so much to see and do, a holiday at the Old Garage will be one to remember.

The delightful seaside town of Lyme Regis has much to offer its visitors, boasting a maze of narrow streets filled with craft and antique shops, galleries and cafes. Take a stroll along the world-famous Cobb causeway overlooking the ancient harbour, where fishing trips can be enjoyed, or try your hand at fossil hunting in the area. The scenic coastal path offers excellent walking opportunities and spectacular views of the stunning Jurassic coast, whilst the gently shelving sands and sparkling waters of Lyme Bay provide the perfect place in which to relax and unwind. A holiday destination to savour!

Great to have parking space. Very comfortable living room and main bedroom but the twin room was like a sauna and very noisy. Smelt musty inside kitchen cupboards - the apartment could benefit from an airing but was otherwise clean. We loved Lyme Regis and hope to return.

Based largely on that pleasant experience, we booked to stay there again, but oh, what a difference a year can make! This time, there was no welcome pack at all. For the first time in 30 years of cottage holidays, there was not even a pint of milk in the fridge. Evidence of lack of proper maintenance soon followed. All the saucepans were covered in a brown grease and several items of cutlery were the found to have dried bits of food still on them. We therefore spent the first hour of our holiday cleaning all the cooking utensils. A precautionary wipe of table surfaces revealed they had also not been cleaned properly, and it later became evident that the floors were the same. After a long and tiring journey, all you want to do is sit down with a nice cup of tea and biscuit, not to have to roll your sleeves up to do the owner’s work for them. What do we pay for, after all? There were numerous further observations which included mould on several window frames, stains on cushions when they were turned over, decking rotting in places and the garden clearly overdue for some TLC. We later brought this to the attention of Lyme Bay Holidays who informed us that the property had changed hands since our first visit and the new owner had brought a different approach to its management. Lyme Bay Holidays offered to send a cleaning team in immediately, but by that time, we had settled in and did not want the upheaval this would create. We advised that in our opinion, the property was in need of a deep clean all round. We can only hope the new owner realises that you cannot trade on stylish looking images alone. There are plenty of other properties about whose owners understand the importance of cleanliness and of providing a welcome pack. Need we say more?

Spacious and comfortable with all fixtures and fittings to a good standard. We would definitely stay again. Not a complaint by any means but just so other occupants are aware it can be a little noisy on the front of the property from the Nags Head a few doors up when it was kicking out time. However it was Christmas and it didn’t bother us at all.
