In the small village of Winterborne Abbas, in west Dorset’s Hardy Country, this large, 300 year old, former guest house is conveniently located next to the main road, making an ideal base for venturing out on day trips and exploring this wonderful area. Churchview House offers great accommodation for 17 guests, which is excellent for family or group gatherings. The house offers 2 living rooms, a large dining area with open fires, and 9 bedrooms, of which 8 are en-suite, all with TV’s the other having a bathroom next door. It is in an ideal location near Dorchester (4 miles) which is the county town of Dorset, and Bridport (10 miles) and West Bay (12 miles). The amazing Chesil Beach and the Fleet Lagoon is 5 miles with many water sports available. Travelling a short distance along the causeway, you can enjoy stunning views from Portland and the famous Portland Bill Lighthouse, all the way over to Lyme Bay, and along this famous stretch of English coastline, now designated as the World Heritage Jurassic Coast, with its superb coastal walking and scenery. Within easy driving distance, enjoy family days out at Weymouth with its stunning, award-winning sandy beach which the children will love, visit the Sea Life Adventure Park and Sea Life Tower, or perhaps try some windsurfing in Portland harbour. There are many attractions in this lovely part of the world; Dorchester has many museums, there is the Tank Museum at Bovington, Monkey World, Corfe Castle, Lulworth Cove, Abbotsbury Swannery and Subtropical Gardens. Further west, enjoy a day out taking in the famous Cob and harbour at Lyme Regis with its beach and quaint shops. Sherborne, Poole (28 miles) and Wareham (22 miles) are also worth visiting for many further attractions. Beach 5 miles. Shop and restaurant 2½ miles, pub ¼ mile.

Lovely house, fire in dining room makes house smokey.Water pressure not brilliant in bathrooms.Overall a great time and adequate for our family.Kids loved the old world feel and equipped well for large group

we had a lovey warm welcome from the owners Jane and Michael and a complete tour of the property. A comprehensive welcome pack and a gorgeous home made chocolate cake was a lovely touch. The kitchen is fully equipped for a large group with everything you need. We were a family group of 16 and we had everything we needed for a lovely week together.Yes the house is a little creaky in places but that is part of the charm. It is an old cottage. we did not use the log fire as we had lots of little ones but it was a lovely feature. Having two lounges and a large dining room was great and provided space for individual chill time. we had a lovely meal at the local pub who were very accommodating for our large group. local shop was handy and the cottage was central for touring the local area. only downside was constant rain and local flooding but we still had a great time.Thank you Jane and Michael we will return.

Churchview House is a very comfortable house, the large kitchen makes preparation of meals for a crowd easy. The bedrooms are comfy and having a bathroom per room is a bonus. We had four cars, and any more would have been difficult, especially if the weather has been wet, as parking on the lawn at the back, does risk being damaged, when moving them. Very warm, heating and hot water very efficient, we didn't need to light the fire. Struggled with 10 adults in either of the living rooms at one time, which was a little disappointing but we managed. Would happily return but not in the summer as the A35 would be non stop and you wouldn't be able to open any windows without traffic noise, but the double glazing was superb.
