About this property

This wonderful, modern country house sits on top of a hill in the peaceful village of Morcombelake, looking out across the rolling Dorset hills to the beautiful, sparkling Lyme Bay. With a sensational slate-paved terrace, eight guests can enjoy breakfast as the sun rises, lunch as the sun moves over the sea beyond, afternoon tea in the tranquil surroundings and then dinner as the sky lights up with orange, purple and pink tones at sunset. Such bliss! Morcombelake is located between Charmouth and Bridport with very easy access to the dramatic, stunning Dorset World Heritage Coast.

Lyme Bay House offers total privacy, modern comfort and stunning views of some of England’s prettiest hills, all the way to the Dorset Golden Cap and Lyme Bay. With walking and cycling trails, horse riding and gorgeous beaches all on the doorstep, this fabulous holiday home is perfect for those that love the outdoors. The house is incredibly spacious and enjoys four excellent bedrooms, each with their own bright and cheerful colour scheme. Lyme Bay House offers an interesting layout where you will find lots of little nooks and crannies where you can settle down with your holiday book or the Sunday newspapers and enjoy a quiet read as well as outstanding social spaces. Almost all of the rooms enjoy sensational views through huge picture windows or floor-to-ceiling sliding doors. The kitchen diner is huge and offers the chef a wonderful social space so that they have company while preparing a feast. The stone coloured glossy kitchen enjoys excellent appliances. The room leads through to a delightful open corridor with sensational vistas and a reading snug, then on to the stylish lounge. The lounge enjoys a feature fireplace, perfect for cool evenings, sumptuous sofas and armchairs and a lovely range of art decorating the walls. A massive picture window offers the best picture of all, those lush rolling hills. The huge sliding doors that start at the kitchen drench the rooms in light and give access to the terrace. Though you can eat in style in the kitchen, the views from the terrace are truly mesmerising as the light changes throughout the day. You may quickly decide to dine alfresco, weather willing.

From the terrace you can step down into the beautiful garden where you will find vibrant rhododendrons amongst the mature planting. The gardens again offer fabulous nooks and crannies to explore.

Upstairs you will find four generous bedrooms, each with its own colourful cheer. Two of the bedrooms face south and enjoy delightful vistas. There are two bedrooms with immaculate en-suite bathrooms as well as a lovely family bathroom which enjoys its design as a wet room. Two of the bedrooms offer king-size beds, another a double and the last is a gorgeous twin.

Lyme Bay House is located in the pretty village of Morcombelake. It is very close to Bridport and also Charmouth and Lyme Regis. Bridport is a thriving, cultural market town. It has a fascinating antiques quarter, twice-weekly markets, regular farmer’s and antiques markets and an excellent range of entertainment. Bridport is a popular filming location. The town also boasts a fascinating rope-making heritage and enjoys a good reputation for arts, culture, events and food.

Just a mile along the famous Jurassic coast, you will find the dramatic cliffs of West Bay then Charmouth and Lyme  Regis and to the east you will find the historic towns of Dorchester and Weymouth. There are many circular countryside walks surrounding Bridport and West Bay offering spectacular panoramic views. You may also want to explore the National Cycle Network. The Jurassic Coast is a World Heritage Site stretching from Exmouth in East Devon to Studland Bay in Dorset, a distance of about 96 miles. The cliffs are full of fossils, particularly around Lyme Regis. Charmouth Beach, West Bay, Chesil Beach, Durdle Door and Lyme Regis can all easily be visited from Lyme Bay House.

Lyme Regis is a splendid seaside town where the stunning coastlines of Dorset and Devon meet. The beach, which boasts fascinating fossils, is a huge attraction. The Lyme Regis Museum stands in the heart of the town. It was built on the site of the home of Lyme’s renowned fossilist Mary Anning and is one of the architectural gems of the town. With fabulous displays, you can find out about Lyme’s early maritime history, its geology, fossils and about the many significant writers connected to the town, including Jane Austen and John Fowles. There is something going on in Lyme Regis thoughout the year. Even In January you can enjoy the annual Lyme Lunge where a costumed crowd runs into the water. In April the Fossil Festival showcases the Jurassic Coast’s most famous rocks. May sees the Jazz and Blues Festival and August sees the annual Regatta. There is a carnival to close the summer and autumn opens with Guitars on the Beach, a mass singalong. In November fireworks dazzle the crowd and then come the spectacular Christmas lights.

To the east, Dorchester is Dorset’s vibrant county town and the birthplace of the famous author and poet Thomas Hardy. You can visit interesting museums, shop, enjoy riverside walks, quaint cafes and some of the country’s best preserved Roman ruins. The Dorset County Show takes place in Dorchester every September offering a celebration of the area’s agricultural history.
