About this property

Tucked away in the picture-postcard village of Burton Bradstock in Dorset lies the Grade II listed Cornflower Cottage. In an Area of Outstanding Beauty, this historic thatched cottage is on the Jurassic Coast and offers a family or group of seven a range of self-catering amenities, a large garden space, and family-friendly accommodation. Make yourself at home in this delightful abode, where a spacious sitting room greets you with exposed beams, an inglenook fireplace, window seats and large sofas. A bright dining room and fully equipped kitchen provide a pleasant space for socialising and preparing hearty meals. On warmer days, make the most of the large, private garden where your dog is sure to love snoozing in the sunshine; you'll find secluded, outdoor seating to relax with a cup of tea and catch up with your loved ones. Back inside, the ground-floor shower room is ideal for freshening up after beach days, whilst upstairs another large bathroom awaits with a bath and lovely views of the surrounding countryside. When it's time to retire, choose between two king-size or three single beds, each thoughtfully appointed for contemporary guests, whilst retaining much of the cottage's original character. Start your day by exploring Burton Bradstock, a picturesque village home to The Three Horseshoes and The Anchor pub, local convenience store, playground and petrol garage. Hive Beach and Cafe is a short walk through the fields, with both Bredy Pizza Parlour and West Bexington’s Club House a short drive away. The coastal villages of Abbotsbury, Swyre and Portesham are host to many wonderful restaurants and pubs, with access to the National Trust world-famous Chesil Beach. Going west, the seaside towns of West Bay, Eype, Seatown and Charmouth provide a variety of excellent seafood restaurants, farm shops, beautiful beaches and coastal walks. The local town of Bridport is three miles away, a hub for many annual arts festivals with a lively Wednesday and Saturday market and diverse independent shops and cafes. Just beyond Bridport is the iconic Colmer’s Hill within Symondsbury Estate, also home to several homeware stores, a delightful café and some of the best views across the South-West. Nearby Bridport and West Dorset Golf Club offers day passes, and the popular Golden Cap walk along the coast offers an exceptional outlook across Lyme Bay. Daytrips to local towns such as Lyme Regis (12 miles), Beaminster (9 miles), Weymouth (14 miles) and Dorchester (15 miles) showcase the best that West Dorset has to offer. Local cafes and restaurants in the area are very family-friendly, and Burton Bradstock has its own playground and children’s zip-wire. Explore the local fields and rivers, with plenty of footpaths leading directly to the popular Hive Beach. Vurlands Animal Farm and Softplay is just moment’s away, with Abbotsbury Swannery just a little further beyond. Freshwater Beach sits in front of a holiday park that offers bowling and a dinosaur-themed swimming pool. Bridport Leisure Centre has a swimming pool and gym, and the town has its own skateboarding park. The Electric Palace cinema regularly hosts screenings of family films. West Bay is a great spot for crabbing, boat trips, paddle boarding, kayaking and funfairs, and Abbotsbury Subtropical Gardens guarantees a magical visit. For pet owners, most local beaches allow dogs all year round, with dogs on leads during the summer months. Restaurants and pubs generally welcome pets, and the Animal House in Bridport sells a wide range of pet necessities. Both Bredy Veterinary Centre and Haydon Vets in Bridport can provide care whilst away. Book your stay at Cornflower Cottage for an unforgettable staycation in Dorset.

Second stay there and looking forward to our next stay. Clean, comfortable and ideal location.

However, the sofas in the lounge were dreadful! They really need to be replaced. We would have liked a few more items in the kitchen - serving dishes, covered casserole dish and other oven proof dishes, serving spoons. There were only 5 mismatched wine glasses but 24 champagne flutes! The garden was delightful. The beds were very comfortable. The Sykes description describes the upstairs family bathroom as having a bath with hand held shower and a separate shower cubicle - it doesn’t have a separate shower cubicle.

Comfortable beds- felt like a real home. Lovely garden. A few doors up from the anchor pub which has the best seafood. Right on the main road which, as the only way in and out of Burton Bradstock, is quite busy. Literally walk out of the door and have to be careful with the dog. But we got used to this and it wasn’t too much of a problem. Parking opposite ,though not dedicated. Unfortunately the road was being resurfaced while we stayed there and they only worked during the night. This was very disturbing to us, but won’t affect any future guests.
