Downside Cottage in Beaminster offers a peaceful farm experience with stunning views and friendly owners. Guests enjoy the proximity to animals, the cosy atmosphere, and the rural charm. The property is praised for its cleanliness, comfort, and location, making it an ideal retreat for nature lovers and those seeking tranquillity.

Guests that stayed at this property said

The majority of guests found the cottage clean and well-presented. However, one review mentioned a need for deeper cleaning and basic provisions, slightly lowering the score.

The location is highly praised for its peacefulness, beautiful countryside, and proximity to local attractions and the coast, making it an ideal rural retreat.

Guests consistently mention the comfortable beds, cosy living spaces, and home comforts. A few noted the shower height and noisy floorboards, but overall the cottage is seen as comfortable.

Facilities are generally good, with special mentions of the conservatory and open fire. Some guests suggest minor improvements and maintenance, such as kitchenware updates and floorboard repairs.

While some guests were delighted by thoughtful touches like a Christmas tree setup, there is insufficient information to determine if such gestures are consistent or guaranteed, thus the score is set to null.

About this property

Mosterton 0.75 miles.

Visit Beaminster of TV's River Cottage fame, or head south to the Jurassic Coast. A perfect base for a relaxing farm holiday in tranquil, rural surroundings.

The thriving community of Mosterton boasts a number of good local facilities and is set in a designated Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty in the West Dorset countryside. Close to the Somerset border, just three miles from Crewkerne and less than five miles from Beaminster, this lovely village is perfectly situated for those looking to explore this superb rural area. The region was a favourite destination of Thomas Hardy – author of 'Tess of the D'Urbervilles' - and in recent years has been featured in the 'River Cottage' television series. Rarely do you get 2 reclining settees. Lovely views and peaceful. Approach can be difficult if meeting another vehicle in Down view Road. This never happened to us. Dogs enjoyed the large garden.

An open fireplace which was really nice. Very comfortable electrically operated recliner sofas. I’m sure this might have been mentioned before. The upstairs landing floor boards are very noisy and needs sorting. Plus the gutter above the conservatory needs clearing out, as when it rains the noise is unbearable as the rain overflow falls onto roof of the conservatory. Although there is a double radiator in the conservatory this is not enough to keep the temperature the same as the house. Especially as this is the dining area. Obviously in the summer this would not be a problem. However even with these maintenance issues we would still recommend this property as we had a super break. Thank you very much.

Location was great for us too. Good for dog walks too. It provided a home from home for us for two weeks as our property was being refurbished. WiFi connection not always reliable.
