Set in an idyllic Dorset village, this cosy and imaginatively updated cottage makes a lovely, tranquil getaway for a family looking to enjoy a quiet break in glorious rural surroundings. A former quarryman’s cottage dating back to the 18th century, this delightful retreat is an ideal base for exploring the Purbeck Hills. With the Jurassic Coast just a mile away, this is a fantastic base for keen walkers and nature lovers.
Retaining original features including flagstone flooring, exposed beams and stonework, this spacious and welcoming cottage features an attractively designed open-plan lounge/kitchen/diner. The lounge is a perfect space for relaxation, with an open fire set in a large beamed inglenook. You can prepare a favourite meal in the fully equipped kitchen and there’s a charming dining area to gather round in. Going upstairs, there are three light and comfortable bedrooms, all with reduced head height – two double rooms and a bunk bedroom. Please be aware that the cottage has several low beams and doorways. The unenclosed garden has shared access and is situated behind a high stone wall, reached via nine stone steps. This is a lovely spot to enjoy a morning coffee or an evening glass of wine, and features outdoor furniture, trees, shrubs and a lawn. The lower terrace area is home to a gas BBQ and a small table and chairs.
The magnificent coastline is just a mile away, with local landmarks including St Aldhelm’s Head (2 miles), Winspit Quarry (1 mile) and Chapman’s Pool (1.5 miles). You can head west to Kimmeridge Bay (9.5 miles) and the fascinating Etches Collection (8.5 miles) or east to the pretty Victorian seaside town of Swanage (4 miles). Travelling inland, you can explore Corfe Castle (4 miles) and the beautiful nature reserves of Hartland Moor (6 miles) and RSPB Stoborough Heath (7.5 miles). The pretty village of Studland (6.5 miles) features a beautiful beach, nature reserve and ferry service to Brownsea Island.
