About this property

Resting in the quaint village of Milton Abbas in Dorset is Pips Hideaway, a stone-fronted two-bedroom cottage. Rurally set between Dorset AONB and Cranborne Chase AONB, whilst offering a stylish base for a family of four, the cottage provides all necessities to enjoy a self-catered stay with a furry companion in tow. Park up to the front and enter the stylish living/dining room, where you can unwind after a day of exploring upon the plush sofa, before gathering around the six-seater dining table to plan your forthcoming itinerary. Head into the quirky kitchen/diner, with hints of industrial features and state-of-the-art appliances, where you can rustle up tasty dishes to enjoy around the breakfast bar or upon the bistro set, located on the front patio. As the night unwinds, head upstairs and be welcomed by a spacious super-king-size (zip/link) bedroom, dotted with storage, or select the mezzanine twin, bordered by lofty ceilings, both serviced by a sleek bathroom with a sunken bath. Come morning, explore your local area, with the chance to tour the grand structure of Milton Abbey Church, before travelling south to hike through May's Wood, visit Athelhampton House & Gardens, steep in history and beauty, or immerse yourself in a fun-filled afternoon at Insight Activities, offering archery and axe throwing experiences. Venturing further towards the coast, visit Monkey World - Ape Rescue Centre for a guided tour, head to National Trust - Max Gate to take part in an on-site event or to simply stroll around its peaceful grounds, or locate The Tank Museum and its exhibit of over 30 different vehicles. Returning north, enjoy the breath-taking views across Sturminster Newton Mill and the River Stour, head to Badger Watch Dorset for a taste of wildlife spotting, or feel at one with nature whilst trekking up National Trust Hod Hill. Plan your next break with Pips Hideaway as your base.

It was perfectly situated for exploring Dorset. It was also so quiet and peaceful and a joy to listen to the relaxing sounds of the birds singing and see lots of varieties of bird feeding on the bird table. We were slightly confused by the directions to the property as we didn’t come via the Blandford way so we had to go through the village of Milton Abbas (which is stunning) and turn around to follow the directions given. There is a very weak mobile/GPRS signal in and around this area so perhaps some directions from the other end of the village would also be helpful. The property is absolutely stunning. So well thought out, so very well decorated and so very clean and tidy. It has pretty much everything you could need in these sort of holiday properties. I didn’t find myself saying very often ‘I wish this had….’ (Although maybe a clothes airer for drying the towels and swimming costumes after days at the beach would be an extra bonus?). We absolutely loved the quirky layout of the house which is something of a trend we like to look for when finding holiday properties to stay in. The owner lives in the beautiful thatched cottage next door and on arrival had prepared lovely scones, jam and clotted cream and later in the week had baked a very tasty Dorset Apple cake and gave us some slices. Whilst she lived next door and we had a shared drive, I did not feel that we were in each others pockets or overlooked. It still felt very private. However, we did feel that if we needed to we could call on her and it was slightly comforting to know she were nearby should there be an issue. From this area you can visit most places in Dorset within 30 minutes to an hour. The closest beach is only 30 mins away. During our time we were able to visit: Dorchester, Monkey World, Dorset Falconry Park, Cerne Abbas (and walk to the giant), Weymouth, Portland Bill, Lulworth Cove, Durdle Door, swanage and Corfe Castle all within reasonable travelling distances and all great places to go. This property was ideal for our holiday in Dorset with our family of four and it was also well affordable. I would absolutely recommend it and would stay again if we return to holiday in this area.

The location is perfectly peaceful, and the cottage is beautifully decorated with everything you need. Anita the host went above and beyond and made us feel very welcome. Beautiful walks from the cottage. The Abbey is stunning and the local farm shop, also within walking distance, was very welcoming with lovely local produce and an outdoor café. Just lovely!
