The Artist’s Garret is an artist-designed loft for two, set in the Devon countryside near North Tawton. Part of Burnswood Boutique Escapes, which featured on Channel 4’s Four in a Bed, it takes inspiration from the romance of a Parisian studio. Bold colours, distinctive artwork and views over sculpture-filled grounds create a memorable setting for couples to slow down and enjoy time together.

Large sash windows draw natural light into the double-height living space, where painted Indian teak columns, vibrant wallpapers and a distinctive balustrade create plenty to catch the eye. Settle on the sofa with a film or a book before stepping through antique painted doors to the bedroom, centred on a king-size bed with Egyptian cotton linen. The generous grey-tiled wet room has a walk-in shower, underfloor heating, robes and slippers, adding an extra sense of comfort to the stay.

The kitchen has everything you need to cook at your own pace, from relaxed breakfasts to dinner for two. The private balcony invites morning coffee or a drink at the end of the day. A specially designed bridge leads from the loft to its own garden patio, with seating and a barbecue for meals outside.

Dartmoor National Park is within easy reach for walks through open moorland, wooded valleys and historic landscapes. Explore the architecture and Teign Gorge setting of Castle Drogo, or spend a leisurely day exploring RHS Garden Rosemoor. Back at the Garret, the balcony, artwork and rural surroundings provide a welcoming setting for an unhurried evening together.
