… set back from the quiet Brightley road, 1½ miles from Okehampton, most of an ancient, Grade II listed, thatched cottage (the friendly owner lives in the smaller half). Once linked to the Cistercian monks of Brightley Priory, it is full of beams and ancient knobbly walls. At the back of the cottage, a huge, enclosed, level, lawned garden (which the owner occasionally tends) with terraced area (table/chairs, barbecue) and shed for storing your bicycles and paraphernalia.
Wonderfully characterful living room with woodburner, TV/DVD/video and window seats. Kitchen/breakfast room (dishwasher, microwave, larder fridge); small pantry (freezer). Ground-floor double bedroom (washbasin) with old priory stone wall and high ceiling; bathroom (suite, shower over bath). Up steep stairs (handrail), two further bedrooms – a twin (5'10" lintel), and a single (no clothes-hanging space, 6' lintel), both with window seats. Washing machine in outhouse. A relaxed base in a very pretty and unexplored area with lots to do locally.
