The Annexe at Higher Lydgate Farmhouse in Postbridge, Devon, is highly praised for its cosy and warm atmosphere, ideal location for walking, and friendly owners. Guests enjoyed the peaceful setting, the log burner, and the proximity to local amenities. While some minor issues were mentioned, the overall sentiment is that the cottage is a perfect base for exploring Dartmoor and offers a comfortable and welcoming stay.
Most guests found the cottage to be well-maintained, though a few mentioned cobwebs and dust. The majority of reviews, however, do not raise cleanliness as a concern, suggesting a generally high standard of cleanliness.
The location is consistently lauded for its tranquillity, proximity to local walks, and the village of Postbridge. The setting is described as beautiful and perfect for exploring Dartmoor, contributing to a very high score.
Guests frequently mention the cottage's cosy and warm environment, comfortable seating, and good beds. The presence of a log burner adds to the comfort, especially during colder weather.
The facilities are generally appreciated, with mentions of a well-equipped kitchen and generous heating. However, some guests noted the absence of items like hand soap and a broom, and one mentioned a need for maintenance, slightly lowering the score.
There are no specific mentions of gifts or special thoughtful touches provided by the hosts that would warrant a score in this category. Therefore, the score is set to null.
At the end of a private track about half a mile from the centre of the Dartmoor village of Postbridge is this cottage created from the end of a Victorian farmhouse. Head up the steps into the porch and through French windows into the comfortable open plan living area with seating area with cosy wood burning stove, dining area and neat kitchen area. Stairs lead you up to the two bedrooms, each with pleasant view of the garden or moors, and a bathroom. Along the track at the back, you have a garden with big lawn surrounded by trees. At the front, a footpath leads you to the village pub and shop in about five minutes. Beyond the house is lovely Dartmoor countryside and open moorland, with lots of walking routes to choose from and fishing in the River Dart. This is the heart of Dartmoor, where you will get cream teas and ice creams from the village shop and you can find the Dartmoor National Park Visitor Centre. The remote pub at the Warren House is worth visiting to see the fire that never goes out, and Plymouth, Exeter and beaches are only about twenty miles away. This is a lovely area for walking or seeing the amazing scenery, with The Annexe an excellent base.

Location is brilliant with lots to walk to as well as being central to drive around. Particularly enjoyed Castle Drogo, the Visitor centres in Postbridge and Princetown and Lydford Gorge. Cottage was cosy and comfy, surprised at how warm it was. Lovely base to explore this beautiful area.

Downstairs room is well laid out. Could do with better positioned lighting in the kitchen area.It is a bit in the shadow when cooking. The wood fire is fantastic. I think we used all the available fire wood. The bathroom light over the wash basin was not working. So the bathroom is dark. Where the house is situated is great for those like us who do not like having close neighbours. Easy walk into Postbridge for supplies. Good axcess to Dartmoor.

There were even two Roe deer in the adjoining field one morning. The Annexe had Wi-fi, but limited mobile reception which caused a problem when we had a flat tyre, but Julian was most helpful in allowing us to use his landline. We would happily stay again if in the area.
